Skyview (4003), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Sep 9, 2007 Picked up a single 22-oz bomber at Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a decent tan head that has good retention and lacing. Aroma of dark black malt, some coffee, smoked wood, dark chocolate and a touch of tobacco. Taste is full bodied, very lightly carbonated with flavors of dark chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Finish is smooth, creamy with a decent coffee and chocolate aftertaste. One of the best over the top stouts. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Sep 6, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. poured an opaque black color. Head was tan with good retention and lacing. Aroma was of milk chocolate and vanilla. Tasted of coffee with big roasty bitterness. Warming alcohol finish. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA Sep 5, 2007 Bottle, dark aroma of tobacco, leather and raisins, pours very dark opaque bblack with a small tan head. Nice light carbonation, some sweetness, balanced against a nice roast and hops combination. Slightly slick on the tonge. Its quite nice, very drinkable a tsty stout. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Sep 4, 2007 Thanks to Skyveiw for sharing another tick off my want list. Nice brown body with roasted oatmeal nose. Similar flavor but with a coffee flavor and faint chocolate. Really nice. chriso (4665), London, Greater London, England Sep 2, 2007 Bottle, at London Shindig, August 2007. Now this is more like it. Good dark colour with a big beige head. Lots of roast malt. Enough coffee and chocolate to add interest without dominating. Plenty of bitter hops to enhance the drinkability. Beautifully balanced and just a really nice stout all round. The beer of the day.
JK (2944), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Sep 2, 2007 Roasted aroma, which itself is not very impressive. The flavor however, is complex and exceptional. There is sweet malt and roasted grain. Considerable smoke. Fairly thick on the palate and undercarbonated. Quite good. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Sep 1, 2007 (bottle, thanks Skyview) Pours black with a dark tan head. Aroma is somewhat subdued, but there is some dark chocolate and roasted malt present. Taste is of roasted malt with dark chocolate, with a coffee bitterness on the finish. Not bad, but a little thin.
