killjoy966 (215), Washington, USA Jan 3, 2009 I’ve been meaning to try this one for a while now. Looks inky black with a little chocolate-colored head on top. Tastes smoky with a molasses-like tang. Seems especially bitter. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Jan 3, 2009 Courtesy of tpd975. Pours deep darkness with nice mocha head. The aroma is licorice, mild burnt molasses, hints of coffee, chocolate, burnt malts and just a bit of toffee. The taste starts roasty and chocolate and then becomes a bit astringent with roasted malts drying things out. A modest level of sweet dark fruity esters persists in the background. It ends roasty with a hint of chocolate. Very nice. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 1, 2009 courtesy of tpd975.
Pours black with beige head and yellow lacing.
Aroma of roasted malts and coffee.
Taste, coffee and chocolate with malts. After taste has a light hoppy mouthfeel.
Amazing beer for this abv, with complex characteristics. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Jan 1, 2009 Bottle thanks to tpd975. Pours a deep black with a tan head. Aroma of maple, oak, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, and some caramel. Flavor is fizzy with coffee, earth, chocolate, hops, and lingering coffee bitterness. Nice beer. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 1, 2009 Bottle courtesy of tpd975. Pours a dark brown to black color with thin tan yellow head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, dark ripe fruit, some notes of caramel, coffee, smoke, and wood. Flavor is roasted and malty with a slight hop presence, hints of chocolate, coffee and caramel. Generally full-bodied with a pleasing coffee/chocolate finish. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Dec 31, 2008 22 ounce bottle split in pint glass. Black with lasting tan head and lace. Dark chocolate and roasted coffee aroma with complex smoky roasted slightly burnt bitterness and delightfully understated fruitiness. Full body, especially for abv, and medium carbo. Very complex and delicious without overdoing the alcohol. Excellent. tturner (103), , Washington, USA Dec 29, 2008 A bit flat and watery with an overpowering bitter finish. Doesnt stand up to other imperial stouts in the same price and IBV range. CheersMate1 (766), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 23, 2008 Very good beer. Went to the brewery today, and it was amazing. Nice smooth chocolate and ash taste. This beer was creamy and had a nice brown chocolate head that was excellent. Very smooth and creamy. Went during "hoppy hour" so this made it even better/cheaper. Anyways, a wonderful stout with a nice creamy and coffee/chocolate taste. Have fun drinking this one.
