Commercial Description:
A full-bodied beer with deep chocolate color, velvety malt texture, and a dark-roasted flavor, with hints of smokiness and coffee. It combines the dryness of traditional Dublin-style stout with the strength and character of Imperial Stout.

Draft at Brouwer’s Cafe Hopfest ’06. Always a pleasure. Absolutely solid black--a real shut up and drink me if you dare beer. Lovely creamy off-white head. Big coffee and chocolate nose. Sweet, chalky, chocolate body--smooth and rich but not overbearingly thick. Filling. Long sour bitter finish, but not by any means excessively so. The GF says "a little half and half in there would be good." I guess you don’t have to love stout to pick up on the coffee flavor notes. I’ve loved this beer for ages.

Had just about all the qualities I look for in a stout. REAL tasty!

Pours a near-black with a thick brown head. Good lacing. Very roasty aroma and flavour, charred and a little earthy. Bitter chocolate and a hint of fruit (yeast?). Smooth and full-bodied, with medium sweetness. Finish is quite dry. This plays more like a foreign stout in my mind, but who cares... it’s awesome!

Courtesy of tpd975. Pours deep darkness with nice mocha head. The aroma is licorice, mild burnt molasses, hints of coffee, chocolate, burnt malts and just a bit of toffee. The taste starts roasty and chocolate and then becomes a bit astringent with roasted malts drying things out. A modest level of sweet dark fruity esters persists in the background. It ends roasty with a hint of chocolate. Very nice.

A very well done stout. Dark brown to black with a creamy tan head. aroma of bitter toast and chocolate. Coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and dry bitter hops in the finish. Dry and hoppy in the finish. Very good.

Draught at brewpub. Pours pitch black with a bit of lacing and a small swiftly dissipating head. Nose is some coffee but not as aromatic as it could be. Decent mouthfeel. Good toasty and black chocolate notes. Smooth and drinkable but falls short of wow for me.

2001-2002 - Black as coffee and strong as espresso, a huge creamy head that never quits with incredible lacing. Big, full bodied chocolate flavor, that was very thick and creamy and very tastey.

Very Black, with a thin brown head. Aroma of coffee and burnt toast. Intense coffee flavors, with a hint of chocolate, but the palate is the real attention getter. This is rich and smooth, with a mellow hop bite. Very drinkable, especially for a beer this rich.
