Aug 5, 2009 22oz. Bottle (at 7%ABV): Aroma of chocolate, slight roasted malts, and a hint of cream. Poured pitch black in color with a small, rocky, dense, solid brown head that lasted throughout. Opaque. Average lacing. Not sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and medium bitter. Tasted of chocolate, bitter coffee, roasted malts, slight piney hops, and a slight hint of vanilla. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Roasted, chocolate, coffee finish is lightly dry.

Apr 19, 2002 Updated: May 10, 2003Dark as the cloudy moon-less desert sky, the head a velvety chocolate crown, the lace a shield against the light. Sweet toasted grains, bitter-sweet chocolate and a over cooked pot of coffee, what the hell else could you say to describe this nose, start is ambrosial, the top thick and chocolate like. Finish has a spiteful hop spicy bite, the acidity stinging, the aftertaste bitter chocolate dry and one damn fine stout in my humble opinion.

Apr 3, 2008 [1098-20080216] Tap @ Pike brewpub (Seattle, WA). Mocha roasted malt aroma. Black body with a long-lasting creamy tan head and thick lacing. Very thick burnt coffee malt roast flavour. Rough and thickly full body. Overpowering coffee but a solid stout regardless.

Sep 14, 2007 Appearance: Pours an opaque black body with a medium-sized, beige head.
Smell: Aroma of rich, roasted dark malts with plenty of dark chocolate and licorice. Faint hint of soy.
Taste: Dark maltiness with an airy sweetness to it. Some licorice. Full roasted grain flavor. Super soft touch of floral hops near the roasty, dry finish. The taste, overall, has a little sourness to it.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Moderate carbonation.
Drinkability: Best beer in history? No, but it’s a tasty, nicely drinkable stout.

Mar 28, 2006 2005-2006 release. Thanks Chuck. The beer pours to a very dark brown/black body with a tan head. The aroma is smoky coffee and light soap. The flavor is smokey chocolate, dry black malt. Dry, medium-light body.

Jul 30, 2007 Draught sample. Great toasted grain aroma. Molasses and caramel. Coffee and hit of chocolate, with light fruity hops. Dark black clear with tan head. Heavy bodied with medium carbonation. Thick and rich with coffee and chocolate bitter tang. Light smoke. Sweet toasty grains with deep bitter finish and creamy smoky after. Nice stout.

Mar 3, 2007 22oz bottle. Good multiple aromas from this beer. Smoke, wood and mild sweet licorice. Black body with dark tan head and oily lacing left on glass. Medium body texture along with some coffee and coco flavors. Smooth on the palate and left a dry tobacco aftertaste.

Oct 3, 2009 A rich dark chocolate aroma. Flavor is almost oatmeal stout thick. Chewy chocolate. Roasty but quite good in small amounts.
