Pour was dark black with a nice tan head, good retention, continous covering. The lacing was ok. The aroma was milk chocolate. The flavor was milk chocolate, lactic notes, light chalky bitter notes. The mouthfeel was moderate body moderate dryness. Thanks, Andre, I enjoyed this one, very nicely balanced, not overly hoppy, not sickly sweet or alcohol laden, smooth bitterness. Aroma of roasted malt is pretty dominant with some light coffee notes also noticeable. Taste is quite dry with limited chocolate and coffee note and a medium bitter finish. This is like an imperial take on a dry stout, which is probably not something that I’ve really been looking for. Interesting but still way too dry for my taste buds. aracauna (2392), Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 23, 2002 Nice pour, deep opaque black with an easy, thick creamy head that clings to the sides of the glass. It’s not exactly long-lasting, but it never fully fades (ends up thin cream layer that’s too thick for a film, but kind of like a like coat of moss or lichens). The aroma is a little weak, but roasty. The flavor is as strong as it should be but it dominated and unbalanced by too much burned bitterness. A bit of smokiness lingers underneath. The lack of balance makes this less than a joy to drink, but intriguing at the same time. BrewDad (2378), Olympia, Washington, USA

This was what I am looking for in a Stout. Black and huge roastyness. I loved the overall flavor and you just got this one right. The body I needed a fork to finish. Hello awesome Stout in my book. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 29, 2008 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Pours quite dark, and chocolate mahogany brown in color. A foamy, khaki colored head settles to a thin layer, leaving sudsy lacing in its wake. The nose gives off notes of baker’s chocolate, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee beans. Flavors continue this trend, feeling sort of one-dimensional with all the roasted character. I’d like to see some more sweet chocolate and dark fruity notes come through, but instead only bitter baker’s chocolate and coffee are detectable. Medium-full bodied and smooth, with lingering, bitter roast. Overall, this isn’t bad, but isn’t great either.
