Commercial Description:
A full-bodied beer with deep chocolate color, velvety malt texture, and a dark-roasted flavor, with hints of smokiness and coffee. It combines the dryness of traditional Dublin-style stout with the strength and character of Imperial Stout.

Bottle. Pours a dark black body with a mocha head. Cocoa aroma, chalky, and some distant hops. The flavour is nicely done - toasted dark malts, chocolate. Well balanced but nothing sticks out particularly well. It’s good but not necessarily special.

I had this on tap in Seattle, but I'm rating from the '02-'03 release bottle. This is a black beer with a dark head. Bitter chocolate, almost raspberry truffle flavor. Nice roast flavors and very well balanced. Great stout.

2000: As an Imperial stout fan this is as good as it gets without the high dosage of alc. I am now drinking my last one. It is bursting with flavors. Very smoky, burny, vanilla, bourbon-like sweetness on the palate and aroma, bitter chocolate reminiscent of Rogue Chocolate, heavy, thick body with creamy, long lasting brown head. Man o man.

Thanks to jimbowood for sending this treat my way. Pours very dark brown, close to black, with a good sized dark orange head. The aroma has dark roasted malt with smooth heavy cream, milk chocolate, light licorice and slight veggie. Medium / thick body that is smooth and lush with minor carbonation. The flavor starts with roasted malt that is lightly harsh in a good way. There is also some coffee, hop bitterness, some spice and light cream. Thankfully there is no veggie traits on the taste. The finish has spicy and lightly wood hops added to the mix. A very nice stout.

Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this one. Pours black with a tan head. Roast malt aroma, some coffee. Roast malt bitterness dominates the flavor profile. Smooth bitter.

Draft at Brouwer’s Cafe Hopfest ’06. Opaque black with a light tan head. Aromas of coffee and dark chocolate. Full, oily body. The taste starts lightly sweet with coffee, chocolate, burnt toast, roasted nuts, but cleans up on the bitter and slighty smokey finish.

tap at the brewpub - Pours black with a moderate, enduring tan head. The aroma is roast malt and coffee. This full bodied brew has a taste to match and the coffee flavor is at just about the right moderate level. The finish is mildly dry and bitter. Good stout.

Draft at the brewpub. Sweet, roasty aroma, plenty of dark cocoa and brown sugar to go with light touches of flowery hop and espresso. Very nice. Thoroughly opaque black color with a lasting tan head. Flavor is full of roast and cocoa as well, bittersweet, with a good dosage of fresh, leafy hop flavor, not much in the way of bitterness, though, as the bittering balance in the equation seems to belong solely to the dark, coffeeish, grainy malts. Good blend. Piney, very lightly fruity hoppiness, malts are very darkly roasted and sweet, working well in conjunction. Very full-flavored, makes for an appropriate dessert beer or digestif. Creamy mouthfeel, smooth and full. Nearing Imperial caliber. This is just a great stout, and I need more of it.
