Pours black with mahogany head.
Aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Hitns of citrus hops.
Flavor, coffee and chocolate with malts. After taste has a light hoppy mouthfeel.
Amazing beer for this abv, with complex characteristics. Possibly, some bitter chocolate.
Hints of dark fruits, raisin/currants like mouthfeel. mar (1973), Dallas, Texas, USA

Pours a pure black color w/ a thick brown small bubbled head w/ some thick lacing. Smells farily mild a dark roast malt w/ hints of coffee & smoke a bit light. Palate is very light, not very viscous. Flavor is lightly smoky and coffee dry roast malt, too light.
Possibly starting to show infection as the beer was much smaller in palate than it should have been. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA

The color was black as a coal mine.Nearly no head at all.Roasted malt aroma with a sweet malt, spicey, fruity aroma as well.Mild hints of chocolate as it warms with an even milder hint of alcohol.Whoa this is good stuff malty mildly sweet taste, coffee, slightly smokey and a very, very mild fruit presence, there is also a slight hop presence that shows itself at the end of the taste. The after taste is malty slightly bitter with a dark chocolate, coffee bite. This is a fantastic brew and i wish i had bought more then one. Nice roasty aromas of malt, chocolate, some coffee. Flavor was more burnt malt than roasted. Not as sweet as had thought it would be. Decent bitter finish. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 6, 2007 Bomber. Pours ultra-black with some amber hues at the edges and an interesting two-layered head-- the bottom half was a darker brown, the top half a khaki tan, with a definite line between them. The aroma is coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, and red wine- a more sophisticated nose than I had expected. The flavor is coffee, bitter chocolate, mildly acidic raspberry, and toasted wood at first. It then gets some brown sugar and rum notes, but the roastiness intensifies to keep the sweetness at bay. The finish is somewhat piney, and also a little bit vinous. It leaves an ashy, but tasty, aftertaste. Basically a session-strength imperial stout, I could seriously put a few of these away. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA

Aroma is sweet and bitter chocolate, some roast and coffee, somewhat fruity as well. Like others have said, huge complexity for such a low ABV beer. Very drinkable yet complex and good flavors.
