Commercial Description:
A full-bodied beer with deep chocolate color, velvety malt texture, and a dark-roasted flavor, with hints of smokiness and coffee. It combines the dryness of traditional Dublin-style stout with the strength and character of Imperial Stout.

Bottle shared with Your Dark Lord and Landseer. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma was uncharacteristic of a stout, as it smelled like a belgian ale and pot pourri, with just some faint dark roast. Full bodied, but with a medium texture- not as thick as I was expecting. Flavor of dark roast and coffee, but with very little sweetness. Hoppy and earthy finish. Perhaps this one may have been past it’s prime?

Disappointing. Was looking forward to this one and it didn’t deliver. Poured an opaque black with a small tan hea. Nice aroma of dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, a bit of hops, and dark cherries. Medium body and thin texture. The flavor was of a robust mocha cafe. It was good but not as good as expected.

22oz from SamuraiArtist - thanks, Ezra! A simply beautiful beer, in looks, smell, and taste. Thick and black, with hints of ruby peeking through - maybe not quite as viscous as I like but quite fine. And certainly the thick, almost oily mouthfeel is pleasing in the extreme, with subtle (!!) roasts emerging from the smooth chocolates. Slight bitterness in there (from wood or dark choc?), and just a hint of dark fruit. Man, I need more of this stuff.

Provided by kmweaver. Dark brown/black body with a small tan head. Rich, roasty, chocolate nose with some citrus hops, coffe and dark fruits. The flavor is moderately sweet with chocolate, molasses, bitter roast/coffee and raisins. Medium body is soft with moderate carbonation.

Bottle. Pitch black color. Meager brown head forms and then fades rather quickly to a slight ring. Aroma of kalamata olives and dirty ashtray initially. As the beer warms it takes a more pleasant aroma of moderate smoke and wood. Medium bodied and quite smooth as Oakes notes. Lower carbonation level which is befitting. Pleasant roasted grain flavors. Not overly astringent, decent hop levels. Chocolate and dark coffee. Quite nice.

The Dan Journal #26. Tasted 5/30/06. 12oz bottle vintage 1989! Thanks to Joe at Corral for this absolute gem! Pitch and thick. Toffee and sugary aromas. Notes of caramel grapes port wine and anise. DAMN! This is a complex brew! Full bodied and oily. Flavors of peat and vanilla. port and prunes. Flums and dark fruits. Leather. Damn! This was amazing. This is on the top five all time best!

Taste moves from sweet and innocent to burnt and alcohol filled. A fairly decent stout. Bottle looks bad ass with the five X’s on it. Worth a try.

’05-’06 bottle. Pours to a black body with a foamy tan head. Chocolate, grahm cracker and some prune in the aroma. Nice flavor! Milky coffee is a foundation to cherry and light roast. Above-average viscosity in the mouthfeel. Finishes with tart acidity over chocolate grahm cracker. Well done!
