The color is absolute black, with a brownish creamy head on medium size. It has a mild aroma of bread and roasted malt. The body has a good strength, quite round mouthfeel, with a good flavor of roasted malt and dark caramel, the bitterness is a crescendo till the end, very nice; there is a trace of liquorice; long final. Very good, almost Imperial.

Jul 30, 2008 Black with medium brown head. Sweet roasted malt in the aroma with notes of wood, bourbon and coffee. Sweet flavor with roasted malt, caramel and coffee. Flavor disapoints a bit.

Dec 16, 2003 (2003-04) Intensely dark brown with medium brown head. Aroma is rich coffee, bittersweet chocolate, light vinous. Taste is burnt coffee, light chocolate. Creamy body, remarkable for its fullness in light of its ABV.

Oct 16, 2006 On tap at Pike Pub, Seattle. Black, lasting tan head. Smokey aroma, bacony aroma. Bit of sourness in mouth, liquorice, riding over the top of coffee dominated dark malts,espresso, bitterdark choc flavours. Bitter finish. Great balance of liquorice juicyness and bitter dry malt finish. Some hop in evidence on finish. Excellent stout. Got everything, good complexity

Jun 1, 2007 It’s pitch black and the head is huge, creamy and nougat colored. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate and preserved fruits/berries. The flavour is smooth, nice and harmonic - and it has a delightful "mean" streak of heavy roastiness. I find notes of dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, preserved fruits/berries, that give a vinous touch, and it has a nice bitterness all the way through. It’s a really, really nice beer - thank you so much Tom/After4ever for this one!!! 2300

Nov 26, 2007 Bottle. Tasting @ thewolf. Pours pitch black with a good lasting light brownish creamish head leaving a good lacing. Aroma of lots of roasted malt, lots of chocolate and coffee. Great filling mouthfeel. The flavour has a very good thick roasty maltiness with lots of chocolate, coffee and a good bitterness. Dry very roasty chocolate finish. More please!
