| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 8, 2007 Blackish-brown color with a really nice looking tan head. Aroma is a creamy mix of coffee, well-roasted malts, a bit of chocolate, and smoke. Taste is a great mix of dark malts, peat, coffee, chocolate. Wonderful - I’ll put this up against any Dry or Regular Stout. If only this one was at my local Irish pub in place of Guinness............. hayduke (1655), Eureka, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 11, 2007 This was from a 22oz bottle purchased in Ashland, Oregon. It poured a deep black color, and left a nice tan head. Lacing was chunky and attractive in the glass. The nose was sweet molasses, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, nice roast malts, and citrus hops. Mouthfeel was thick and oily, and very smooth. Flavor is the molasses, coffee, chocolate, malts, hops and some sweet fruits kicking in. and some dark fruits. Finish was long and enjoyable with just enough piney hops to go with the coffee at the end. Wonderful brew. Butters (1652), Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 17, 2009 Bottle shared with the guys courtesy of ScottyP from his trip to Austin. Near black pour with decent, fading dark tan head. Roasty, smokey, chocolate. Some coffee in the finish. A little thin on the palate. Cool label. NachlamSie (1642), Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 11, 2008 Bomber. Pours black with just slight ruby glints in the light. The head is sparse and spotty, though really nice lacing is left on the goblet after a swirl. I get baking chocolate, nutshells, hickory smoke, and coffee in the aroma. It seems to be bittersweet and borderline tannic. Yeah, this is rather bitter in the flavor and dry all the way to the finish, though it is clean. The bitterness comes across with lots of wooden flavors and suggestions of cacao and espresso. Very little sweetness is present. . .maybe some licorice in the finish. This is one dry stout and remarkably balanced and drinkable at that. Pretty well put together, if I do say so myself.
