Everything about this suggests it is something solid and firm. It pours from the heavy weight bottle an opaque brown with creamy brown head and decent lacing. The aroma is alive with smoky chocolate malt with the strength of an Imperial Stout. The mouthfeel is creamy and bold. The taste tingles with coffee, chocolate and hops and settles fine on the palate. This was a topnotch stout. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA

Pours black with a nice creamy tan head. Smell is dark roasted malt, coffee, a touch of burnt ashiness, some dark chocolate and and some creaminess as well. Very nice. Taste is very much along the lines of the smell with some bitter dark chocolate, burnt malt and rich dark, dry coffee flavors abound. Just a slight twinge of faint fruitiness near the end, but bitterness takes it over and lingers subtly in the end.
Very flavorful for what it is, and a solid mouthfeel and drinkability. Very nice stout.

Flavor remains all about the malt through the bitterness. Keeps its great tan head throughout. The best of the Pike ales I tried. hobbersr (406), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada

Another hop bomb out of the PNW, but very nice enjoyable beer. Hopper (318), San Antonio, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 17, 2009 A dark black beer with a nice foamy 1 finger tan head. Aroma of roasted burnt malt, & coffee. Taste was roasty, dark chocolate, bitter coffee, & slightly creamy. It said extra stout on the bottle. What is an extra stout? Halfway between a sout & Imp. Stout. By the looks & taste of it, it does taste like it is halfway between both a stout & Imp. Stout. ScottyP (314), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA
