Bottle, from Morrisons, Grimsby. Gold, thin white head and gentle condition. Low sweet malt in the nose with a touch of starchiness and a distant floral hop note. Pleasant hoppy bitterness and low grain in the mouth, lingering bitterness and a slight citrusy fruitiness in the finish.

Sep 22, 2008 500ml bottle from Morrisons. Soapy and salty hops. Metallic malt. A fairly typical Czech lager in terms of hop and malt profile, though perhaps not one of great quality. The hops are not crisp and fresh, and the malt is not doing much good either. A poor show. Cheap and nasty, but not too offensive.

Sep 21, 2008 Bottle of Bakalar sat on durka durka street. Mid to dark golden colour with small white head. Malty flavour and not massively offensive.

Aug 28, 2008 Hazy golden with medium white head. Sweet yeasty aroma with fruity and caramel notes. Sweet and malty flavor with yeasty and caramel hints. Ends sweet.

Aug 11, 2008 10-May-08 (500-ml bottle with a competition label only: Free sample bottle for stewarding the 2008 World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA) Nice malty nose shows the typical sweet breadiness, but hops are very light and there’s a bit of oxidation. Bready, lightly sweet malt base is pleasant, and the hops are spicy and lightly bitter. Pretty nice flavor profile and beautifully balanced, and it’s a style I really enjoy, but it does start showing some oxidative notes as it warms. Medium-bodied with medium carbonation. Some crispness in the mouthfeel from gentle hoppy bitterness. Pale-golden in color and quite clear, but there are some floaties spoiling the view. White head pours almost an inch in height. The carbonation bubbles are a bit large, but surprisingly, the head doesn’t collapse like you’d expect from the large bubbles. Overall, quite a nice Czech pilsener.
