Bottle poured a clear b rown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of roasted malt, carmel, cocoa and light earthiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a smooth finish. Flavors of carmel, cocoa, dark fruit and ligfht earthiness with a smooth grainy malty finish.

Bottle from Valley Farm. Dark amber in color upon pouring. Sweet caramel/toffee aroma. Some malts as well. Sweet chocolate flavor up front. A little watery. Finish is somewhat lacking.

Bottle. Lovely aroma, slightly musty and bready, with yeast. Deep reddish-amber body, substantial off-white head. Flavor is subtle and robust, roasty, breadish, with malt and some nuttiness. Lingering sticky finish. A really delightful beer.

Crushed at the Hessen Haus. Totally pleasant but nothing remarkable. Pours a hazy dark brown without much head, and subsequently without much lace. A nice malty aroma has some sweetness and a little bit of coffee. The flavor is sweeter than it is dry and has pretty pronounced coffee characteristics. What I like about Pinkus is that they always seem to do something different, this is a very clear exception.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy/fizzy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain/bread, nuts, caramel), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a light note of DMS. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation. Meh. Not a lot of character and a little unclean. Watery and kinda fizzy. Passable at best.

Bottle, Stubbies & Steins. Hazy copper with thick bone-colored head. Diacetyl mars the aroma, which is also yeasty and sour but has some bready notes too. Weird sourness and a slick mouthfeel signal that this bottle may be off. I can tell there is a good brew under here but the sourness is killing it, it’s a shame.
