Interesting aroma of sherry, spicy melanoidins, cherries, butterscotch, and dried apricots. Almost clear red brown under a very bubbly, krauseny, beige foam that drops to a thin cover with lacing. The flavor is unfortunately dominated by cardboardy sourness that develops into some sherry, nuts, and dried fruit. This beer has a serious wild side that is really not traditionally German. I wonder if it may be a little infected. A bit buttery too. Light body, medium carbonation, nutty buttery sour finish.
KimJohansen (5208), Copenhagen V, Denmark Dec 22, 2008 Clear amber with medium off white head. sweet and somewhat spicy airoma with toasted malt and caramel notes. Sweet fslavour with malty and caramel notes. Finishfed sweet. Trev (629), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Dec 15, 2008 Pours a a medium brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is nutty roasted malt and weak coffee.
Flavour was much lighter than the aroma and the body seemed thin.
Repeating the nutty tones and thin roast malt/coffee. Some toffee sweetness. Flat finish.
A bit dissapointing. notalush (2160), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Dec 13, 2008 Pours a clear, dark copper, with a thin ring of foam - aroma of raisins, dark german breads, buttered toast - the flavor is not as sweet as the aroma - some moderate noble hops at first, making way for toffee, prunes - bready/doughy through the middle - a little bit of sweetness - gets dry and nearly tart on the back end - clean and refreshing, with a little bit of wintery spiciness way in the background to make it a little more interesting - not bad, just not all that memorable. g2bfry (39), San Diego, California, USA Dec 13, 2008 A deep, somewhat cloudy, brown with a short brown-beige top. Aroma of pumpernickel, coffee, butter, and toffee. Medium-full body with good carbonation. Flavorful malts of toffee and caramel, with buttery hazelnut flavors fading in strong, and a smooth root beer and sour whiskey finish. yespr (8539), Copenhagen O, Denmark Nov 27, 2008 50 cL bottle.
