Pinkus Münstersch Alt

Yellow color of a filtered hefeweizen. 1/4" white head, laced mostly with mostly small bubbles. A strong earthy cereal grain flavor reminiscent of crystal malt mash water dominates this beer. Balanced with a very subtle hop presence. Slight astringency in the finish. My first beer of this alt style.

Bottled @ KØ 2005: Pale yellow coloured. Clear. White head. Malt, fruit and some flowery notes in the aroma. Flavour is a little thin. Citric, light grassy and light hoppy. Is fruity and light bitter in the end.

Bottle: Straw golden colour, thin but firm white head; fresh and fruity (citrus) and also a bit malty nose; smooth, fruity beginning with some traces of malt, vinous flavour, smooth and a light, but firm body; sourish finish with a tinge of hoppy bitterness; very refreshing, a fine summer drink.........

500 ml bottle. No date. Pours golden with a larg head the rapidly disapates. More kolsch aromas than what I would expect from an alt. Apples and flowers. The kolsch come though in the flavor also. Very crisp apple notes. Tangy. Slightly bitter. Medium body and high carbonation make this beer prickly over the tounge. Flavor leaves quickly. This is not what I expected. Not really an alt that I’m familiar with.

Bottle. Very effervescent, almost fizzy, golden color. Aroma is very fruity, dominated by apple. The apple/fruit flavor comes through strong as does the high carbonation. Palate doesn’t develop fully.

Draught at Pinkus Brauerei. Served in Pinkus Alt glass. Pale gold color. Moderate head. Fruity, flowery aroma. The flavor is fresh, flowery and fruity. Harmonic and easily drinkable. Reminds me of a good Kölsch.

I am more familiar with Dusseldorf Alt Biers and this is a Munster Alt which I was told would be slightly different. I found it to be a little less acidic than the Alts I am familiar with and was pleased greatly with the mildly fruity and citrus qualities along with the grain flavor. It was quite good and organic for good measure. I would still prefer a Hannon Alt but this will certainly do.

(bottle) Clear yellow colour with foamy big head. A fruity pilsener like ale with pleasant flavour. Thus very balanced. Fruity, crispy, malty taste. Very refreshing; a spring/summer beer.
