Overcarbonated...foamed right out of the bottle. I know that beers may not survive the boat trip well, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt. Weak head, off-aroma. Flavor is lightly malty, with funky, bitter hops. Little hops nose. Maybe I'm not getting it, but this isn't what I picture an alt to be based on the American versions I've tried. Not a big fan.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2004 Straw gold, almost clear, egg white head that lasts. Lovely, fruity nose, with some toasted aromas. Flavor is clean, malty, with an assertive bitter aftertaste. Very Bohemian Pilsner-like, but with a bit more yeasty character. Quite nice. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 7, 2004 Golden color, slightly hazy, snow white head that lasts, bubbles constantly rising. Malty and a little fruity in the nose. Flavor was malt up front, some citrus and hops in the rear. Slightly dry and acidic, quite refreshing. Very nice. Gromit (464), Port Orchard, Washington, USA

Looking it it reminds me of a pilsner with a really nice head. Great lace as well.
Smells of a light malt and a little fruity.
Tastes light. There's really not much taste, but not like a macro. It has character, I just can't figure out how to describe it. It's crisp and refreshing.
Mouthfeel is also light. Drinkability is good because it's clean and one could easily drink this for the night. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 26, 2003 Great looking glass of beer, tall and thick white head just over an inch high, golden straw yellow body, head settles slowly to a thick hazy foam, lace sticks amazingly well in clumpy patches. Aroma is lightly malty sweet and fruity, kinda like sourdough bread and eggs, notes of vanilla, almond, and strawberry. An inticing nose, but lightly so. Taste is mild, some short lived bready sweetness, lightly fruity with strawberry and honeydew, subdued tangyness, malts are quite sweet and frothy fresh. Takes a bit of getting use to, but once it settles in and warms up some it ain't half bad. Feel is close to medium, carbonation is pretty full and raspy in texture with a full on sweetness sticking around long after each sip. A strange, sweetly fruity brew, a bit enjoyable, but I think I'd rather be drinkin' something else. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 17, 2003 Very light, pale, straw like color, clouded, strong head formation, light carbonation. Strong malty dark fruit aroma. Sweet fruity flavor, dark fruit prune malts, mild orangey balance. Slight bitter balance in the finish but stays sweet throughout. Either I'm not a fan or I should have read Oakes commenst and cellared it for a couple of years. Reid (1093), Salem, Oregon, USA

The aroma of the bber was pretty strong and mostly malty..though one can detect a little hop zest in the background..spicy too.
MM taste is like a spiced up golden ale..not bad at all..but not what i expect from an altbier.
pretty pleasant on the palte and an easy drinker. belgianhomebrew (646), Acworth, Georgia, USA
