Bottle from Friar Tuck in Savoy, IL. Pours pale golden amber with a white head and soda like carbonation. It almost looks like a creme soda. Typical european macro lager aroma, but more bready and less hops. Light bodied with slight fizziness and watery texture. Flavor of sweet bready malts with very little hops to balance it out. I pick up some vegetal notes on the finish (DMS?). Not really a good example of a Kolsch, and not that enjoyable as a beer either.

Clear bright pale golden color has a thin, airy, frothy white head. Sweaty pale malty sweet nose has some light fruity esters and is pretty true to style. Body starts with a light sweetness and some light earthy bittering hop balance. Finishes smooth and drinkable. A pretty decent Kölsch.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from The Coffee Grounds in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Pours a clear golden pale brew with a fast dissolving white head that leaves behind a fine film and white ring. Aroma of some sweet citrus and Hawaiian bread, some flowery hops and a touch of banana. Taste is medium bodied, smooth, very light carbonation, fruity malt flavors with a semi sweet finish. Groovy Brew? At first I wondered if this Psychedelic named brew was a flashback to the watered down beers of the 1960s; or would give me one of those mushroom "bad trips" I heard that was popular in the 1960s; or is it a squeeky clean Brady Bunch type of brew? None of the above. It’s just a misnamed brand to a German Kölsch. Remind me when I visit Klön next year to see if any of their beers are considered "goovy."

I like this more than others, apparently. This is a staple of my frequent camping trips near Black River Falls. Hazy yellow color, fruity aroma and smooth, citrusy taste. Not bad at all.

33 cl bottle, Wisconsin. Pale yellow, creamy thin head. Musty bread and citrus aroma, chalky flavor as mentioned by others. Not great but drinkable.

12 oz bottle. An unlabeled Wisconsin brew, but had to try it. Turned out to be a kolsch, still unsure why it was it’s called groovy brew. Very clear orange/light yellow with small white head. Some pepper and banana aroma. Flavor of banana, clove, med sweet. Very light, little carb, and little chalky. A little more interesting than a standard kolsch.

This was as expected from a kolsch. It was smooth with a seeming emphasis on malt. OK for a summer quencher.
