GreatLibations (1327), Sasquatcho, Arizona, USA Feb 13, 2006 Updated: Aug 18, 2006 I caught a glimpse of it’s viscosity as I poured the first few ounces. Full nectar indeed as I smile. I see the tiny bubbles form this thick froth, as it rises the aroma spills from the goblet into the air creating a symphonic prelude of the olfactory sense. Dough, spices, florals, tropicals, malts, as I watch the goblet fill with golden honey nectar I anticipate it’s crescendo. Just as I suspected, a full bodied ale with flavors perfectly ballanced to confirm this fine ensamble. A touch of sweetness lends just the right amount of distraction to soften the high alcoholic disposition. Banana fruit, vanilla, bubblegum, spice, honey, w/ an asprin tingle on the finish. As with most fine Belgian’s let this one warm a bit, the flavors will intensify. Highly recommended. This is a utility brew.
Skidds (214), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Dec 2, 2008 Pours an orange/gold with a thick, foamy nicely laced white head. Aroma is quite fruity and yeasty with a hint of spices. Flavour about the same with sour and bitter notes. Great. VTHopHead (709), Barre, Vermont, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bottle - Poured a darkish amber in color with a small white head that faded to a thin rim around the top of the beer. A small amount of lacing on the glass. Aroma is quite malty and heavy with Belgian yeastiness... some citrus noted as well. Flavor is very fruity... apples, pears, cherries, lemon... with a plenty of malts and some spices (coriander, of course). Slight sourness with the citrus. Finishes with a nice hop bitterness. Alcohol, although apparent as you drink the beer, is not distinct in the flavor. Arrr... I like this one... Imperial-John (113), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Nov 29, 2008 Dark golden with a white foamy head. Yeasty aroma. Smooth creamy yeasty bread taste, hides alcohol well. lawbagada (5), , Maryland, USA does not count Nov 29, 2008 Solid beer if you like strong Belgian Ales. Piraat has plenty of spice, body, and alcohol to put you down for the night. I didn’t think that the taste of this beer was as fruity as it was spicy with loads of coriander and and honey. Good sipping beer that grabs the back of your throat as you swallow. If you don’t know what I mean by that...try it. JonnyDr (128), , South Yorkshire, England Nov 27, 2008 Golden beer with frothy yellow head. Malty with metallic and heavily alcoholic. Average for the style.
