Commercial Description:
This Belgian Noël takes it’s name from Jan Baptista van Helmont (1579-1644), the Flemish chemist and physician who first discovered CO and coined the word “gas” by recognizing the existence of gases distinct from air. This energy luminary was the founder of pneumatic chemistry and also the first to bridge alchemy and early chemistry. Hats off to the man behind the bubble. Proost and Happy Holidays!

Bottle shared at BCTC 2008. Pours a clear honey gold with an average size off white head. Aroma had lots going on and seemed to be a combination of some white wine and floral notes. Flavor had more of the grains and yeast showing up but still had a white wine like quality about, possibly from the alcohol which was on the strong side. Medium bodied with a good dose of alcohol heat. It might have been better to try this one earlier in the night because I can’t recall anything about other then what my notes say.

750ml bottle @Joe’s NYC Gathering courtesy of rciesla–pours a white ring and hazy gold color. Aroma is perfumy, barnyard/musty yeast, bread and medium malt-caramel. Taste is perfumy, barnyard/musty yeast, bread and medium malt-caramel. Crosses over to a farmhouse style. Some herbal hops, tart/vinegar. Interesting.

Pale golden beer. Aroma is gorgeous, rich sweet spices, clove, earthy cologne, pear/apple fruitiness and a light mintiness as well. Dry finish with a nice flinty minerally character that balances the sweet spiciness. Really nice brew.

Bottle. Pours a dark apricot/orange color with medium fluffy/frothy head. Aroma was really yeasty with sweet spicy notes. The taste was the same but the taste was full and sticky with sweet candy in the finish.

Pours a light yellow amber body. Sweet malty and a bit buttery, some spice and lots of sweet malt to balance all the abv. Nothing special really.

750 ml. Pours light gold with a small head. Aroma has a nice yeastiness with just a small amount of popcorn. Flavor has small amount of grape and a balanced amount of grains. Decent beer.

Sampled at HotShotz Indy tasting May 24, 2008 - Aroma is malty, caramel, rotten peach, orange, apricot and hops. Pours transparent orange with no head and no lacing. Flavor loses the rotten peach and gains a stronger hop presence and spicy yeast. Palate is sticky and tart. Not as bad as I originally thought after the aroma.
