Commercial Description:
This Belgian Noël takes it’s name from Jan Baptista van Helmont (1579-1644), the Flemish chemist and physician who first discovered CO and coined the word “gas” by recognizing the existence of gases distinct from air. This energy luminary was the founder of pneumatic chemistry and also the first to bridge alchemy and early chemistry. Hats off to the man behind the bubble. Proost and Happy Holidays!

Pours a nice copper amber, looks like honey. A bit translucent. White frothy head. The aroma is spicy, sweet, a little rummy, Belgian, light alcohol, very rich. Very warm in the mouth, fruity, plum, port flavors, alcohol, very strong Belgian flavor, nutmeg. Nice full mouthfeel with a very soft carbonation.

Thanks to emacgee for this. The pour is hazy deep coppery with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma is bready caramel malt, spicy florals, apricot, honey, and earthy candi sugar. The palate is rich and complex, with well hidden alcohol, and flavor notes of syrupy apricots, candi sugar, malt, citrus, tangerine, mango, and some floral spicy notes. This one was very enjoyable, and another very good beer from these guys, who hold a spot among my top 25 all time brewers.

Bottle. Aroma is yeasty with notes of dried fruit, candi, yeast, bread. Deep gold hue with an average off-white head that left no lacing. Flavor is same as aroma with an average finish. Palate is medium bodied with some lively carbonation. Not bad, but nothing really sticks out.

Atlantic Ale meeting. I found this overated, also funky, apple juice. Thin mouthfeel. Some soapy head and lacing.

Pours a hazy yellow sunshine color, with just a hint of bronze. A short lived head of white lace receded to some solid bridal lacing. Plenty of streamers. Initial aroma is sweet, with some mild bubble gum esters and doughy grain. Green apple tartness and some nice spicy yeast notes. A nice complex flavor with a good balance of sweet and spicy. The sweetness is more fruity than Belgian sugary, like an apple or grape juice. A slight vinous flavor contributes to the sweetness and earthiness. The spiciness is like a mild black pepper with a hint of boozy fire. Green apple tartness adds some dryness to the finish. Decadently creamy and smooth, with delicate carbonation. A excellent American take on Belgian style. Nicely balanced. Complex without being overwhelming. The alcohol presence is felt but doesnt dominate. Keep em coming Pisgah, Ill drink em if I can get em.

Thanks Ethan for picking this up for me. Shared with Charles and Vickie while watching Grandma’s Boy. Poured an orange golden with a small white head. Aroma has a lot of spiciness, some alcohol and belgian yeast with a fair amount of sweetness. Flavor mimics the nose with a heavily carbonated mouth feel. I found the alcohol more noticeable than other raters, it seems. Not my favorite from these dudes.
