I too had this beer at the Durham Beer fest, however I noticed at 7.5% it is certainly not a Barleywine. Though I am not sure what a Harvest Style Ale is, I really enjoyed this one. Malty and rich with a creamy mouthfeel full of fine bubbles. The brewer told me they use mostly Munich and 120 Caramel malt, this is a really balanced beer, not too hoppy, but assertive. It was a bit cloudy at the fest, but it was a nice amber with garnet highlights and a slighlty offwhite head. For me this beer gets an extra point for being Organic, and brewed in NC.

Yet another growler from Degarth. Thanks. The pour is brown with amber highlights to go along with a tan head and nice lacing. The aroma is a bit mild with some malty roastiness mixed with light dark fruitiness. The taste is much like the aroma with dates, prunes and some raisins that slowly turn more and more into a roasted maltiness. The finish is mostly roasted malts that linger for some time. For an organic beer I didn’t pick up any of the stale malts that have become a hallmark of an organic brew, to me.

Bought a Growler at GreenLife in Asheville. I love this Brewery but this beer wasn’t my favorite so far. It tastes a little like vegetables? It looks good and pours good but didn’t live up to my expectations. Although I must admit their Baptista has Spoiled me.

Orangey brown. Smoky, fruity aroma. Smooth and malty, with a viscous palate. Very nice malt flavors with a smoky, piney hop finish.

From notes 10/9/05: A pretty amber color with some yellows and oranges along the edges. Modest white head. Aromas are hoppy with a zesty spice and a rather wet green tone. Flavors begin with some doughy maltiness followed by a leafy green hop cone nature. Fresh from the bines. Herbal with some mintiness. Solid mouthfeel. Aftertaste of a lingering bitterness. Very drinkable. ABV not really noted, this one goes down easily for fall.

Sampled on draft at the brewery. Pours a reddish copper with a large head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is nutty and slightly tart with a bit of a hop bite. Taste is nuts, caramel, sweet malts and assertive citrus hop notes. Medium bodied.

Draught. Pours dark amber with fluffy beige head. The aroma is spicy grains with some grassy hop notes. The flavor is brown sugar, some nutmeg, then dry hoppy bitterness. Some honeyish sweetness bounces around. Clean aftertaste. Ok.

Thanks to Josh for sharing this growler. Pours a lightly hazy golden amber with an average off white head. Aroma of earthy hops, hay, a bit bready and caramel malts. Flavor of earthy hops, some toasted malts, nice hop bitterness balanced nicely by the malt.
