Commercial Description:
IPA was originally brewed strong and hoppy to survive the long trip by sea from England to India. Treat yourself to this American version of a classic strong ale. 51.2 IBU

Brewer’s growler from the 6-Pack Smoke Stack in Swannanoa, NC. Pours caramel into the glass, with a 3-finger retentive, eggshell-hued, ice cream froth head.... leaving thick, soapy lace down the pour. The nose is of floral, citrus and pine needle aromas. Flavors of lightly toasted malt, muddy citrus notes, well-hopped, with a finish of biscuity pine needles. The mouthfeel is a bit lighter than I would have expected. Not a huge amount of complex texture here, but an easy quaff nonetheless. An ok IPA.

Growler from the brewery. Darkish gold, decent white head. Smells citrusy and grassy, with some sweetness. Clean crisp palate. Mostly hop forward, with some grainy sweetness in the finish.

On tap at the brewery pours light amber color with some hop haze and off white head. Aroma has more malt in the nose than hop. Disappointing. Opulent mouthfeel. Flavor is grassy hops with an assertive malt backbone. The hops and there and just don’t work well with the malt. The tour guide told us each IPA is a different recipe because they are working on making the perfect IPA. They still have some work to do.

Poured from growler a hazy, light amber hue. Formed nice size head of foam, lacing apparent. Aroma of light hop and malt notes. Flavour of malty, lightly toned hops that give this beer a medium mouthfeel. Overall decent beer, will drink again, but I think their Pale Ale is better. All in all, Pisgah does good, again. Growler was brought to me via Doboy (thanks ed !!).

Growler from Bruisin Ales. Very smooth. Nice hop aroma upon first pour. Good clean taste. This also held up well. The growler wasn’t opened for at least a few weeks later.

Growler courtesy of RealityDeviant on 04/23/2009. Slightly hazy amber body with a medium frothy off-white head. Big citrus and piney hop aroma with a pale malt background. Sweet citrus, and catty hop flavor with a pale malt background. Medium body with moderately high carbonation.

First off lacing the glass really well. About an inch of head on the initial pour. Tastes very well. Medium bodied. Tons of hops on the nose and a large amount of them on the palate as well. Finish leaves you with a smaller amount of hops in the flavor. Almost like an odd vegetable flavor. Get this one if you can.

Growler pour at the HMoG at the Brick Store. Pours a light golden amber with a fluffy white head that leaves some decent lacing as it recedes to a ring. The hops kick pretty hard up front with an initial earthy aroma with hints of citrus underneath. The caramel malts are subtle but present in the nose as well. The taste starts with the earthy hops which have a nice opening bitterness which is balanced pretty well with the toasted malt backbone. There are some pine hops to provide a bitterness through the finish. The mouthfeel is prickly but still smooth with good carbonation. This is definitely a drinkable IPA and another great brew from Pisgah.
