From a growler purchased at Bruisin Ales. Black, with a dense, dark tan - almost brown, really - head. Aroma is... Wow. Coffee. and not coffee grounds, or ground coffee, or instant coffee. It smells like fresh brewed coffee. Really amazing. I like coffee stouts, and to my memory this is the best smelling coffee stout I’ve had. I’d love to do a side by side with Speedway or Peche Mortel. Flavor is equally impressive - Mostly coffee, with a bit of dark cocoa and just a hint of vanilla. There is not a lot of components involved, just a few simple flavors in a rich, smooth, exceedingly well made beer. A definate home run.

Draught at Pisgah Brewing Co. The only thing I might criticize about this delicious beverage is that it tastes more like coffee than beer! At that, it tastes better than any coffee I’ve ever had, but then again I’m no coffee connoisseur. I hope they start distributing this to stores in growlers.

Let me first say that I love coffee. If you love coffee then you will love this beer. If you don’t love coffee, then avoid this beer and leave it for coffee lovers like me. Pitch black in color. Smells like fresh coffee beans. Flavor is wonderfully one demensional...COFFEE. In fact this taste better than most coffees I’ve had. Smooth on the palate. Maybe a touch to thin. Pisgah continues to amaze me.

Corked and Caged Bottle from BDR I believe, this brewery has great name significance for me as the sleep away camp I went to is quite close to Pisgah Forest. Anyway. Woah, what a damn amazing nose. This beer smelled amazing from when I first popped the cork. Nose is rich and roasty with a lot of coffee. Pour is really pretty nice big black with a huge lacing brown head. Taste is freaking amazing, this is a big killer coffee stout, its so damn good, and rich and smooth and full of coffee. This is a stellar stellar stout!!

Bottle. Pours out a dark black color with a thick tan head on it that lasts to the end of the bottle. Awesome pour, havent seen a beer that looked like this in a long time. Smell is sweet, with a little bit of chocolate and a huge amount of coffee. Sort of like Peche Mortel Light. Taste is very smooth and incredibly easy to drink. Thick yet not too thick to session. Dangerously drinkable, I could see myself drinking alot of this and not remember my name. This is up there with the top beers in this category. On par with Kalamazoo.

Growler, via BA Deuane. Pours a nice opaque black body with a creamy foamy brown one finger head that had nice retention for a 5 day old growler. The nose is just spectacular, it smells like freshly ground and brewed dark roast coffee. It actually smelled more like a quality cup of coffee than the actual cup of coffee they brought me with dessert at the restaurant I took it to. Some roast and mocha as well, but mainly just coffee. The flavor is super smooth well extracted coffee, no astringency at all from either the coffee or the malt. Great depth and complexity to it, this really is all about the coffee, but there’s a very solidly made Stout behind it. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with a texture that is maybe a little less robust and less thick than I’d like, but the carbonation is just right and it’s so easily drinkable. The label on the growler says 7% ABV, but there was no trace of that at all. Overall, I will admit that I am a huge sucker for coffee beers in general, there are a half dozen coffee beers in my personal Top 50, but this was just excellent any way you cut it. Way, way, far and away the best organic beer I’ve had to date as well. Big props to Pisgah for this effort!

bomber from bruisin ales. pours slightly thin for a stout, very dark brown, with a thick, light tan head a great lacing. aroma is great with huge, dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and a touch of smoke and vanilla. flavor is simply delicious with amazing rich, dark coffee, more chocolate, roasted pistachios, toffee, and just a touch of sugary, vanilla sweetness and a long, dry, bitter coffee finish. definitely the most coffee forward brew i’ve tasted. palate is smooth, medium bodied, and just a touch too highly carbonated for a stout. overall, a delicious brew that proves organic beers can play with the big boys.

Intense aroma of coffee, roasted malt and bitter chocolate. Very black pour. A pffft at the open leads to a fairly carbonated beer - possibly too much primer. Lots of coffee and burnt caramel, mixed with roasted malts, including an abundance of Black Malt. Pretty darn good.
