22oz bottle from jmichael from back in november of ’07.....pours a close to black pour, dark brown edges with a fairly thin light brown head... aroma of heavy roast and chocolate notes. nothing extraordinary but very solid... flavors continue on that note. roasted malt and chocolate with some late developing bittersweet cocoa flavors. mouthfeel was lacking in some respect due to thinness. could have used more body. flavor was on which made up for it. 8/4/8/3/14

7/28/2007: Pisgah Vortex II is very dark brown in color. The aroma reminds me of burnt bread, graham crackers, and sweet honey with hints of coffee and nuts. Very intriguing... The flavor is mostly chocolate and roasted malt with some nutty highlights. Coffee persists in the finish. Medium-bodied. Very good. I would love the opportunity to try this beer again!

Sample from bottle shared by nolankowal at the "Columbus Tasting: Ate, now with gramatical errors" event. Thanks you! Rating #66 for this beer...

22oz from a courteous gentleman on Beerinator. Lovely dark pour with a modest head. Absolutely massive chocolate aroma, with some strong hints of blackstrap molasses too. Sludgy motor oil body, with a bit of hop liveliness to perk things up. Deep rich taste and a velvet mouthfeel. Nice one.

Richmond Summer Gathering. Bomber. Deep brown, almost black, with a brown head. Chocolate and coffee nose, light licorice, a bit of alcohol. Full, slick body, slithers into the gullet. Bittersweet chocolate flavors, muted coffee and licorice, a bit of grapefruit rind peeks in. Nice!

Bottle at the Williamsburg Gathering courtesy of Immy. Black pour. Small brown head. Nose is dark malts, chocolate, licorice and coffee. Taste is dark and bittersweet chocolate, roasted malts, licorice, juicy hops, soft alcohol and coffee. Body is medium-full with some creamy carbonation and an oily slickness to it. Ends with more chocolate, dark, roasted malts, coffee and alcohol. Big Imperial Stout and very tasty!
