Kirk (2), Greeley, Colorado, USA does not count Oct 24, 2006 A very nice beer. Light amber color with a wonderful head and very nice lace. Very malty and some caramel flavor. Not overly hoppy but nice floral aroma. Aubrey (2592), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 28, 2005 Nice amber hue; all right froth on the head; nice lace. Big malts, with caramel, toast and nuts. Noticeable alcohol nips here and there; kind of overbearing at times. Decent hop flavors/aromas, but not enough of them. Bitterness was mild to moderate. Tasty note of rock-candy sweetness was a nice surprise. Some strange off-flavors (nothing too bad, though) and I yearned for bolder hops, but it was a nice beer overall. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Sep 6, 2005 Light brown color, toffee aroma. Taste is unfermented, cheap malts. Finish is sour, chemical tasting. Not the brewery’s best offer. Ernest (4227), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jul 4, 2005 Draught, Greeley, Pitchers.
Head is mostly diminishing.
Body is medium amber.
Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), moderately hoppy (flowers, orange), trace yeast (dough), with a note of peach, hint of cardboard/sherry.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
This was a surprise, given my feelings on the other beers. This was one of those that had been brewed during The Shack timeperiod, prior to the re-opening as Pitchers. Some oxidation does seem to exist, but it’s minor and actually adds to the Britishness (this is hopped with EKG), insofar as they sometimes use old/stale hops. Nice flavors, juicy, balanced. I think under normal circumstances this will be dry-hopped with EKG, which could be better or worse for my tastes, but we’ll see when a new batch comes out. IMHO, this is the beer to watch and seems to be the one the brewer is either most skilled with or most interested in himself. Tasty.
