profane (40), Italy Dec 17, 2005 nice apparenace, the color is like an alcopops, very clear. The aroma is good, alcohol is strong. The end has a medium lenght, not bitter. jjpm74 (3448), Connecticut, USA Apr 27, 2008 2006 bottle courtesy of magic dave. Pours red with a fizzy white head. Smells lightly fruity with some mellow tartness and lots of earthiness. Tastes of caramel, oak, some sourness, cherries. Some nice tartness and dryness balance easy other out. Mouthfeel is full. Finish yields lots of pepper and is tingly. The tarte nip hits the back of the tongue while some caramel hits the front simultaneously. This is an unusual but very enjoyable beer. rauchbier (2877), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Mar 12, 2004 Bottle conditioned. Hazy amber orange , good off white head and moderate spritzy condition. Alcoholic nose with some apples and yeast apparent, malt lurks somewhere in there as well but takes a good lungful of spirit to spot. Sweet syrupy malt and calvados in the mouth, along with yeast, melon, coconut and cardboard. It also has a discernable spicy tripel quality about it with the vague suggestion of wild funkiness as it warms. Pleasantly warming finish with hints of melon and coconut lingering longest. 500 ml bottle ensures face numbing by the end of the glass.
JorisPPattyn (4638), Antwerpen, Belgium Oct 3, 2004 Updated: Oct 4, 2004Very orange tinted amber; yellow-orange tinted head, dwindling. Ink, toffee, freshly ground coffee - and quite some hops. The roasted coffeebean aroma is very remarkable, and really brings forward an image of these grind-your-own-coffee machines at the local supermarkets 30 years ago. The coffee aroma prolonges itself in the flavour, becoming quite overwhelming, chicory-like. Very bitter, thus, tad harsh and metallic, but also quite vegetable-bitter. Only after quite some time, the bitterness dulled by adaptation, I detect some caramel-like malt. Medium to well bodied, bit oily & slick, aftertaste very roasted, alcoholburn. Good one - big thanks to Mat Wilson. Actually, this is the finest Pitfield brew I’ve head since their very first London stout decennia ago, and the first one I really like since years. harrisoni (5474), Ashford, Kent, England Mar 15, 2007 500ml bottle from City Beverage Company, Old Street. Dark copper cloudy beer. Thick beige head. Barley wine, malty aroma. Bit herby. Some raisins. Creamy malty juicy raisins and sultanas in mouth. Great dose of hop on finish to balance full and rich flavours. Juicy dried fruits are great, fruit peel and citrus fruits. Love this beer. Wide and depp flavours. A little bit of sourness. Very drinkable and interesting 10% beer.
