| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 5, 2008 served in a tulip at toronado san diego, it gleemed a reddish burgandy. the head was thin but already covered the 3cm of glass it once filled. the nose had that classy hop smell...like expensive pine candy, if such a thing existed. a thick wave of candyish resin flowed past the tongue..."gee" i thought, "they aint fuckin’ roun wit dis one" ...it was bitter but completely balanced..it was sweet but only enough to be balanced,..the little girl with the etchosketch and the blind melon coming out of the speakers could not distract me from enjoying this thick liquid pine flavored ribbon candy...its sticky indeed and reminds me of what a christmas morning should be like, drunkedly watching my almost 3 year old open his presents, this time the tree will not die within the first week, i promise. if anyone is drunk enough to remember tom nickels’s colossal failure of a beer, this is what it could have been had it not been failure. toronado has this at the cheapest level of the pizza port beer selection, which makes as much sense as why toronado is so industrially yuppy looking here compared to san fran.. this beer, sticky hop ribbon candy...we can color it the colors of the rainbow so gay people can start having taste too. kmweaver (2471), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a deep amber color; light tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Dense, earthy malts and brown sugar in the aroma; some dried fruits. Medium-to-full, sticky mouthfeel: tons of earthy malts and dried red fruits; dense, chewy malt character is the main driver here; an imperial red ale with very relaxed astringency; nice pine and citrus hops. Lengthy, dried red fruit and brown sugar in the finish; some sweet chocolate throughout, tempering the bitterness. faroeviking (6100), BjórtjóðveldiðBjórheimBjórsins, Faroe Islands

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 5, 2007 Updated: Sep 10, 2007On tap at the Port in Carlsbad, damn I love living up the street from this place! Pours a beautiful deep hue of red with brass colored edges and a one finger rocky vanilla cream-colored head. Warming aroma of melted caramel, fresh toasted bread and malt. Each sip starts with a flavor burst of toasty malts and that good ol’ caramel noticed in the aroma, followed by cinnamon and brown sugar notes that are all backed up by a resiny grapefruit hops profile. The malt really complements the beer’s smoothness on the palate, giving it the chewy aspect. I could almost liken this stuff to Ballast Point’s Tongue Buckler. High alcohol content gives it good warmth. If the ABV was a bit more hidden, I would consider it a stellar Imperial Red. doubleo (1121), San Diego, California, USA

Pours a reddish brown color with a creamy off-white head, good retention, lots of lace. Smells malty and red fruity sweet. Spicy hops on the nose as well. Tastes of sweet red fruits up front and hoppy bitter over the last 3/4 of the mouth. Thick, full body. Good carbonation. Bitter and potent and good.
