On tap @ Hamilton’s Tavern San Diego. A big black IPA, similar to stone 11th but bigger! Nice hoppy nose with some toasted malt. Big bitter finish.

2008 Boulder Strong Ale Fest: Deep burgundy with a frothy, light-tan head. I thought the mouthfeel was a bit underwhelming; light on the tongue with prickly carbonation. Malts were dark and roasted. Mild, tar-like sweetness with some chocolate mixed in. Alcohol was hidden pretty well.

On draft at SD BrewCo during CDC week. Arrives a clear, dark brown color with garnet highlights when held to light and a small whitish head that leaves stringy lace. Aroma of nice roasty malts with plenty of hop character, citrus and pine prominent along with a burnt caramel scent. Flavor is good, more of the roasty malts, counterpointed by pine resin and lemon peel, also ash and hints of bitter chocolate. Mediu body, gently crispy carbonation.

On tap at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA--Poured a deep brown body with a thin white head. Citrus hoppy aroma with some rich dark maltiness. Fruitiness quite enjoyable. Rich, sweet, candy flavor with a biting bitter finish. Nice beer!

On tap at DLD 2008. Pours a brown black with a white head. Hoppy fruit aromas. Lemons, oranges, grapefruits, and pine. Smooth medium body. The citrus, grapefruit, and pine flavors are accented by brown sugar and touch of roasted malts. Finishes with a slight bitterness. I had no idea it was 8.3%. Tasty beer overall.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear very dark brown with a tanned head and massive lasings. Bitter with hoppy aromas of resin and pine. Low carbonation. Medium to full bodied. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. Bitter finish with some sour hopsaromas and a hint of alcohol. Interesting, but kinda one-sided.

Draught from PP Carlsbad. Totally opaque dark brown with very white nitro-looking creamy long lasting milkshake head. Sweet but balanced nose. Hot! Solvent! Disappointment.

Tap at DLD 2008: Boy was I surprised to see this, thanks Nick and the guys at FFF for bringing in this guest beer!

Nearly opaque with a small off-white head and good lacing. The aroma has notes of grapefruit and mango, piney resiny hops, a bit leafy and earthy too, some charred and caramel malt, and a hint of woody smoke. The taste is quite balanced between the malt and hop providing a few different layers of bitterness. The acidity cleans the palate and makes you really for the next taste. Mild roast and smoke towards the mineral tones finish. The mouth feel is aggressive and bright. A very nice beer overall.
