(11/3/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Carlsbad. Very dark but transparent brown color. Aroma of dark fruits (plums, raisins), malt and caramel. Sweet malty flavor with big dark fruitiness, caramel, honey-ish hints and some alcohol. Rather full-bodied.

Tap at Carlsbad. Pours a deep brownish amber with a medium creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of Belgian yeast ester, dArk fruis, caramel and nuts. Flavor of the same. Lots of Belgian yeastines.

Draft @ PP Calrsbad. This was a little too sweet for me, but was a good break from all the hoppy PP brews.

On tap at PP Carlsbad: Pours a dark amber mahogany with a thin-lacing wispy off-white head. Has a sweet dark caramely nose with nice bready yeasty character and some dark fruity notes. Body starts rich and sweet with some brown sugar and raisin complexity with authentic Trappist yeastiness before a slightly drier finish that hides the alcohol fairly well. A nice Quadrupel.

Tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Hazy deep brown brew with a thin tan head. Aroma is quite sweet and very banana-laden. Dark fruit, raisins and rich chewy malts, a bit of light toastiness. Fruity plummy sweetness and a soft rummy spiciness as well. Sticky and lightly sweet. Decent balance though with a nice mix of candied fruit and brown sugar on the back. Soft licorice and a bit of clove as well. Pretty solid brew really. Alcohol is well hidden and the nice orangey character works well with all of the other stuff going on in here.

On tap at PP Carlsbad. Pours with a hazy chestnut body and a small off-white head that goes to a small ring of lacing. Aroma of pralines, banana, plums, alcohol and candi sugar. Taste is alcohol, spice plums and candi sugar. A bit nutty in thee finish. Warming, lively bubbles, very nice.

10 oz pour at PP Carlsbad. Decent enough for a quad. I liked the sweetness in this one. Some raisins, carmalized sugars, alcohol but just a little. Little carbonation.

draft at stone world bistro - dark brown with thin tan head; mostly still with little carbonation; texture is soft and sweet; dank fruit, caramel and plenty of brown sugar; drinks malty and sweet; a little on the thin side; decent overall
