Draught at Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours clear tawny with a frothy, off-white head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, caramel, nutty), light hops (grass, herbs), heavy yeast (dough, earth) with notes of brown sugar and dates. Medium bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation, and a chalky finish. Medium bodied, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness.

Tap at Carlsbad. Pours a brownish amber with a medium creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of dark fruits, toffee, nuts and molasses. Flavor of the same. Nice and dry with some lingering smokey notes.

On tap as Reeds Wee Heavy Scotch Ale. Pours with a brown body and a thin off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is sweet with peat and dates. Taste is cinnamon, currants, peet and a touch of wood. Water like mouthfeel, light bubbles.

Shouldn’t this be under the wee heavy category? A nice thick rich caramel malts, some smokiness. This is a good tasty beer.

Draft @ Pizza Port - Carlsbad, labeled as "Reed’s Wee Heavy." Pours a dark, clear reddish-brown color; light-tan head with solid fine-bubbled lacing. Good amounts of red fruits, dried dark fruits, and brown sugar; dense, reserved sweetness. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy, dense dried dark fruits, brown sugar, and caramel upfront; reasonably reserved sweetness; decent, slightly warming scotch ale with a solid core. Lengthy finish: dried fruit, brown sugar, and chewy dark malts; reasonably sweet.

On tap at PP Carlsbad. Clear copper brown with a one and a half finger beige head, good retention. Chewy toffee dominates with some toast and dry chocolate malts, light raisins present as well. Flavor is a little less sweet up front (not that the aroma was cloying) with some stronger fast, dry chocolate, and a little dry dog food. Then comes the sweetness in the middle, and then the beer almost dries out. Bitterness ended at a two, and was somehow semi-dry, thanks to the ETOH (it wasn’t very apparent to begin with)? Full body with light prickly carbonation. Middle of the road for American Scotch ales.
