Commercial Description:
This bold Belgian Style Ale is a blend of 4 sources of fermentable sugars. American Oak, sour cherries, and three seperate strains of brettanomyces. It takes over a year to make each batch because a beer like this requires patience, creativity, and most importantly, equal parts luck and skill. We know of no other beverage in the world that tastes like this.

The beer poured a nice deep brown color with a slight tan head. This beer definitely has the look and aroma of a nice fruity Port. The taste was of a nice low carbonated, earthy brew with slight taste of oaking from the aging process. The 12% abv makes this a nice dessert drink to sip on and that is how I had it. The alcohol is apparent but not overpowering.

2008 375ml bottle thanks to Secret Santa ’08. Pours dark brown with a small tan head that quickly diminishes into a thin collar. Aromas of sour fruit, cherries, bourbon, oak, vanilla, and a faint hint of chocolate. Flavors are sweet and sour upfront with cherries, darker fruits, and a lingering sour, and bretty finish. Thie bourbon and sourness is a very interesting combo.

2008 bottle acquired via trade with mgumby10. Pours a murky copper color that thins at the edges with a mild beige head. Smells of sour cherries and vanilla, which I attribute to the bourbon. Features added notes of raisin, cocoa, oak, and faint lemon. Delicate for a strong ale. Reminds me a lot of a sour brown.

Bottle shared by nbutler11, which I believe was one of his now-famous Weasel trades. Thanks Nick. I like the aroma so much because it is thick, yet subdued - very important because it could have become a raisiny mess: bourbon, vanilla, raisin, vague fruit, red wine. Flavor is the same, really red wine-centric for me (not at all in a bad way). The vanilla and raisin fall to the background, and the vague fruit clearly becomes cherry which is left to interact with the cab sauv flavors. I wouldn’t drink this often, but I respect it every day of the week.
