Pours a deep ruby/brownish with a small bubbly off white head. Aroma of old sour cherries, tons of oak, strawberries, light alcohol, some earthy notes (kind of like being in the woods in the morning after a nice rain), cherry pie, bretty notes but not over the top, floral, vanilla and the slightest hint of some bourbon. Flavor of tart cherry pie, oak, very light alcohol burn, vanilla, pie crust, horseblanket/barnyard coming through as I spend some more time with it, but the brett characteristics are still not over powering. Love the tart cherry notes! Kind of like a "motherless mother". joet (1706), Fulton, California, USA

Appreciable alcohol. Not particularly bretty but some faint aromas of the pasture. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA

Pours a clear amber with a off-white head that fades leaving some lacing. Aroma of cherries, oak, alcohol, slight caramel, and a hint of vinegar. Taste is citrus, funky yeast, oak, cherries, and slight vinegar. Medium thin mouthfeel with a moderate amount of acidity and very smooth alcohol. Very good. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2008 Shared with cbkschubert. Pours a golden brown color with a very small tan head. Very light spotty lacing. Smells like Brett. Thankfully for me it tastes better than it smells. Light caramel malts, tart cherries, and very light oakiness, with a tinge of vanilla. Leaves a little tartness after the swallow, with a very slight alcohol warming affect. cbkschubert (1968), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

Very light lacing. Aroma is tart cherries and oak/bourbon. Flavor is lightly tart cherries, dark esters, caramel, and oak. The tartness lingers on the palate. Medium body. Slight alcohol warming on the stomach. A nice beer, but not my farorite style. BOLTZ7555 (1080), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

2005 black label 750ml opened (finally) by footy... cloudy woody brown pour with no head. soft notes of bourbon, brown sugar, wood, dark red cherries and fruit with a bit of tart dry funk. the flavor is very oaky/vanilla, malt/brown sugar and soft bourbon with a slight tartness in the middle palate. it gets a bit sour as it warms. smells a whole lot more like bourbon than it tastes and a whole lot more like a strong ale than a sour. medium to full body (probably from the yeast at the bottom!) very well balanced and refined from rudy’s careful aging process... 8/4/8/4/18=4.2
2008 via rusty "don’t call me chilis" chiles... hazy brown with a thin tan head that sticks around. smells like ’funky’ cherry blintzes... tart cherries, cream cheese, sour cream, yeasty cheesy funk and a touch of bourbon/wood/dryness. there’s even a creamy lactic phlegm build up in the mouth. malty sweetness with soft wood up front, cherries, sour cream, fruit and funk. quite tart and fruity. almost like a sour rather than a strong ale and a whole lot more aggressive, brighter and fruitier than the 2005... 9/4/8/4/18=4.3
2008 vintage sampled 9/27/2009 via rudy ’the foot’.
it has a definite pronounced funkiness and band-aid quality. these aren’t necessarily bad but they do distract from the remaining fruity brightness (which has faded noticeably)7/4/7/4/17/3.9
