Commercial Description:
This bold Belgian Style Ale is a blend of 4 sources of fermentable sugars. American Oak, sour cherries, and three seperate strains of brettanomyces. It takes over a year to make each batch because a beer like this requires patience, creativity, and most importantly, equal parts luck and skill. We know of no other beverage in the world that tastes like this.

GABF 06. One of the best belgian interpretations I’ve had so far. Aroma is woody, earthy, brett, funkyness, and fruit. Taste is incorporates all of the above, including dark berries, sour tart cherries, just incredibly complex and good.

I was so looking forwrd to this one...got lucky in a trade and I held onto it for a tasting. I was a bit let down. There were some fruity notes in the aroma, but it feels more like a yest fruit than from the cherries they describe. This does not come through to the flavour. It is kind of sour, but not so much so. I feel like I missed something because I just didn’t get it.

Cloudy brown color, malty sourish aroma with a fruity sort of thing going on as well.Malty vinegar taste with a slight oily feel warm alcohol showing a decent hop showing as well.Theres a few things i like about the brew and i guess a few i don’t.The long awaited brew is not as dynamic as i was expecting but worth a try.

Not so good. Light fruit aroma. Minimal yeasty weirdness. From the aroma and appearance I was expecting a Flemish sour, but what was there was dry and lacking in flavor. I did pick up on the oak but not the cherry. There might be no other beverage in the world that tastes like this, but it doesn’t taste all that good so that isn’t saying much.6/4/4/3/11------ rating of an 05. Red. A little sour. Cherry and oak, and a very smooth palate. Lots of cherry actually. Not as sour as I hoped it would be, but still a significant improvement over what I had the first time.

Black label bottle brewed at Russian River. This brown ale poured with a thin tan head, eliciting a sour oak and alcohol aroma. The flavor is initially coarse malt with a strong hint of cherries and an alcohol finish. This is a truly unique brew that defies classification

Black label bottle, brewed at Russian River. This beer took me by surprise. Not much head develops upon pour. Great reddish brown color. Aroma of oak, cherries, and sour brett. Sourness is mild to moderate though, I must say, I was expecting more. I think the sourness is perfect. Flavor is oaky, sour, cherry, there is almost a chocolate note in there, and it’s pretty dry. Overall it’s really good, and I wasn’t expecting to like this beer. This is the kinda beer you break out for a special occasion with good friends. Unique stuff. I would really like to try the first batch.

Black label, rare beer club version Bottle provided by Walleye. Thanks! Pours brown with red highlights and a whispy, off-white head. The aroma is heavy, smokey bourbon with some sour cherries. The bourbon is so heavy in the nose that I couldn’t pick out much else for a good 5 minutes. Some bretty notes, pineapple, cobwebs, musty. Luckly, the flavor is not as bourbon dominated as the nose. Lots of sour, funky cherries, pineapple, some vinegar, some whiskey. Medium body with soft carbonation, and an oily texture. I think I need to try the other versions.7/4/7/3/14 3.5

Pink label version TITW-II. Big thanks to Jeffin7 for sharing this. I’ve wanted to try this version for a while. Dark brown hazy body with no head. The aroma is cherry, vanilla, funky cheese, vinous, touch of lactic acid and a bit of acetic. The flavor is cherry, bright acidity, vanilla, vinous, balsamic vinegar, caramel, lemon, yogurt, toffee and mild sweetness. Medium/full body with a sour and dry finish and soft carbonation. Glad to see this wasn’t a bourbon bomb like the black label. Rating is for color label only. 9/4/94/17 4.3

White label version Aroma is sour cherry, cheese, apricot, pineapple and vanilla. The flavor is bourbon, cherry, lightly tart, yogurt, cheese and toffee. Medium body with soft carbonation and a warm, tart finish. 9/4/8/3/16 3.9
