An aroma of raspberry’s and some other fruit and alcohol. A very tart almost sour flavor. A well carbonated beer that at first I was glad it was hard for me to get now I wish it were here all the time. aracauna (2379), Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 22, 2006 Pours a cloudy brown. Big sour in the aroma and flavor. Unripe peach fruitiness. This lacks the harshness of some sours like cantillon, but is still definitely sour. Wood. A bit of scuppernong. sandygoonie (27), Seattle, Washington, USA

Not sure what it was the first time I tried this ale, but it didn’t do anything for me other than make me wretch a little. Fast forward a couple years at the Port Anniversary party and this stuff was right on the money. Very intriguing flavors here and a nice sour backbone. Quality quaffable here. I am glad I got to try this again and modify my outlook. frylock (1024), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2006 Black Label: Incredibly oaky aroma, lots of whiskey and some light brown sugar. Cloudy dark mahogany color with a thin white head. Whiskey flavor is surprisingly intense. Light sourness and some hints of black cherries, but the predominate flavors are whiskey, vanilla and oak. I would really like to try the other versions to compare the differences. Thanks to IPFreely for the chance to try this rarity. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 25, 2006 750ml bottle via trade with Foolish_Mortal - Thanks Brandon! Pours deep mahogony with ruby highlights and a soft white frothy head that fades quick to a film but laces from there down. Aroma is a beautiful blend of sour cherries, some oak, a touch of alcohol and some vanilla. Flavor is an amazing blend of tart cherries, oak, roasted malts, vanilla, dark fruits, and some brett funk. Pleasantly blended together in a brew with a soft palate and full body this is one well crafted brew. The barrel seems to make this brew just melt in your mouth. This is really fantastic beer! | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 19, 2006 Updated: Mar 21, 2006A fully diminishing small frothy white head tops up a hazy wierd unappealing medium brownish body. Moderate lacing. No particles. Few bubbles. Aroma presents malt being light nutty while hops are very faint grass ... Yeast character is light. Also, there are evident evocations of sour cherry, vanilla from oak aging and almonds, prunes, among others. Initial flavor is medium sour and acidic while development tends to lead to woody tones/vanilla overtones. sour. Very complex and well constructed. Smooth transition in-between flavors. Very impressive. As balanced as a beer can be. Oak barrel used at its best. Finish is long and medium to full body... creamy texture... Soft carbonation... Thanks to Rastacouere for sharing this!

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 2/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Mar 16, 2006 Cloudy reddish brown pour with not much of a head. Amazing aroma of sour cherries and oak. The flavor is concentrated on sourness with it’s sour cherries giving a lot of character and then they are joined by the character of oak barrels and some brett. The body is light to medium with an oily texture and soft carbonation. It’s amazing to have tasted Panil Barriquée, La Folie and this in a row, an unforgetable experience. Merci David !
