sampled at the pizza port belgian fest. I agree w/ the others, this isn’t a barleywine, very golden, very hopy, citrussy, oh well

After reading everyone else’s comments I feel better, because I thought surely the lines must have been crossed at the festival I attended, but appartantely not. On tap at the Boulder Strong Ale fest, Rating #7: Beer appears medium golden with an off white head. Aroma is highly hoppy and piney with not of the expected aged qualities of a barleywine. Flavor is hoppy resiny and thick tasting. I agree with the masses, this is no barleywine.

Draught, Boulder Strong Ale fest ’05. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), heavily hoppy (grapefruit, resin), lightly yeasty (dough), with a note of alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, heavily bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Barleywine??? Try DIPA.

May I echo everyone else and say that this is a very, very strange barley wine. May I also suggest that this isn’t much of a barley wine, but pretty much a giant triple pale ale. Light golden in color. Extremely hoppy in both the flavor and the aroma. Piney, pungent and lemon-like aroma. Really sugary, fruity and hoppy with notes of resinous, piney hop buds. Fairly coating mouthfeel. A pretty tasty beer overall but only because I love hops.
