Medium body with soft carbonation. Good flavor is mainly roasty nutty malts, then some caramel sweetness. Nice hoppy bitterness to finish. elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 21, 2004 On draft, San Clemente. Hazy orange-tinged gold, smallish head. Served a bit too cold, was a bit harsh at that point but got better. Unmistakable as a BW with decent malt presence and a bit more hop bite than expected. Drinkable and not showing the alcohol, well done. JohnC (2285), Mission Viejo, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 20, 2004 This is a much lighter colored barleywine than most. It pours a hazy gold, with very little head. Slight detection of hops in the nose, w/ some malty sweetness. the flavor is a of a big barley wine. The alcohol is well hidden. Had it on draft at Pizza Port San Clemente unclebleen (620), California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 5, 2004 Pours lighter than most barleywines (a soft amber color) which made me excited to try this one. Very little head but enough to be adequate with good lacing. Aroma has a nice hoppiness about it with the typical barleywine malt backbone. Unfortunately, the flavor did't quite live up to the billing up to this point in the tasting process. I expected more hop bite but the caramel maltiness dominated IMO. Body was decent. I had hoped for more. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Alcohol masked very nicely by the malty sweetness. Keeping true to So Cal, this stuff has the hop bite that we have come to enjoy from Pizza Port. boto (1339), Granby, Connecticut, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 17, 2004 Draught: This one was a suprising light hazy golden color. There was almost no head to it, but what was there provided some nice lacing on the glass. The aroma is sweet and hoppy, with even a bit of yeastiness to it. The taste has a mellow sweetness to it with a little bit of a hop bite. Very Nice! SG (456), San Clemente, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 9, 2004 On tap. For a beer this high in alcohol it has a really light tint; orange/honey colored and a bit cloudy. The small head is really white as well and the contrast is pleasing. An aroma and flavor somewhat similar but more mellow to Hair of the Dog Fred for me...a little spicy and sweet. The beer starts out nice and sweet but has a nice bitter finish that builds as you make your way through the glass. Very smooth for the alcohol content. Nice, vibrant palate with low to moderate carbonation. This is what Pizza Port is all about!
