tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 7, 2009 While unsure of what I was going to drink last night I read labels all down the bottle shelf, I saw Port’s Hop-15 and was sold by the label’s promising of hop bombs at 10%abv. Yeah, it had me at 10%.
The pour was almost syrupy, kind of like if Aunt Jemima Syrup got the Michael Jackson skin bleaching treatment. Head was as thin as calista flockhart, and the aroma of hops and pine and citrus was beautiful.
At first taste I almost pooped. Holy big bag of boners that is a hop bomb and a half. The citrus has all but disappeared and the hops and pine has taken over. I wanted hops, but this is almost too much. It’s kind of blown my pallet to pieces, in a good way.
The pine taste is overwhelming, and its thick, the flavors are just sitting on my tongue.
johndoughty (2150), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England May 7, 2009 Bottle. Golden very clear and incredibly hoppy. Very strong mouthfeel and lots of alcohol. Not for the faint hearted.Quite awesome. petematte46 (212), Dallas, Texas, USA May 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy copper with small off-white head, lacing. Nose has pungent passionfruit, fresh oranges, lemon peel, mild pineyness and a bit of honey. Aroma is really robust, filling up the nostrils. Flavor is lightly sweet, toffee, hints of soil/earth, mild pine and light bitterness. Lingering moderate bitterness and resiny oiliness in the finish. glennmastrange (807), hobe sound, Florida, USA May 1, 2009 Bottle. Moderate roasted and caramel aroma for the malt, heavy juniper and grapefruit peel for the hops, light soap for the yeast, and alcohol in the background. Head is average sized, creamy, off-white, with excellent thick lacing and is fully lasting. Color is light, murky orange/tan. Flavor is moderately sweet and acidic and a bit sour to start, then finishes moderately acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, oily, has a lively carbonation and finishes moderately alcoholic and lightly dry. This is a great DIPA. Bold aromas , strong flavors and nicely balanced. beerchugger (285), Colorado, USA Apr 30, 2009 Pours a very hazy dark orange color with a thick dense white head. The aroma is not particularly stong, as in other DIPA’s. Smells mildly of hops and citrus. It has a real good mouthfeel, light and fizzy from the carbonation. This does pack a powerful wallup though! It’s imediately bitter from the hops slightly giving way to some sweet fruits and then to a lot of pine needles and earth. But the bitterness comes back in full force in the finish. A very interesting beer, full of bitter hop flavor. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Apr 27, 2009 Bottle, with Alaskanwarren and Traci. Copper with a bit of chill haze that goes away after warming up a bit. Lots of dense just off-white head. Musky citrus and mango aroma, green onion, nice touch of caramel. Fresh juicy hop flavor, lemony, pithy, brisk, a little vanilla sweetness. Very light and fruity, surprisingly drinkable for the strength. (And as it turned out later, a nice foil for a habanero-sauced burgers.) Todeon (314), Sweden Apr 24, 2009 Pours a hazy orange colour with almost no head at all. Aroma is filled with mango, orange, grapefruit, tangerine and some pine. Flavor really dominated by exotic fruit and hops. Some peaches, mango, grape and pine can be found. A bit sweet but ends with a long biitter finish. sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA Apr 22, 2009 pours rich hazy copper with small white head. aroma is tons of orange, grapefruit, tangerine, and pine. drinks with a ton of bitter hop up front and citrus through out. finishes with the bitter hops and a little malt. 10% is hidden well. long lasting citrus after taste.
