MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA Mar 6, 2009 22oz bottle: poured dark orange with a smallish beige head. Small head probably due to the temperature of the beer. Big caramel/pine aroma. Big bitter, sweet, massive hop taste. Bitter finish. Nice full body. I may have rated this higher back when I was a big hophead but my tastes have changed. I would have loved this even more so back in the day. Still a very nice beer. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Feb 26, 2009 On tap at the Toronado in San Fran. Pours a beautiful dark golden color with a big beige head. Nice big hop aroma of both grapefruit/orange and pine needles with some mild caramel in the background. Well balanced but leans more towards the hop bomb side of the spectrum, good spiciness to it as well. Will try to pick some of this up when I next visit Washington. Hope they start distributing to Oregon soon! blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA Feb 26, 2009 Bottle from Jamvin23. Pours bright unclear orange with an off white head. Fresh hoppy aroma with citrus and pine notes and a definite caramel malt note. The flavor is pretty well balanced, with a nice spicy and citric hop profile and a solid caramel malt sweetness. Nice lingering grassy hop bitterness. Really good. Brandman (94), Helsinki, Finland Feb 24, 2009 660 ml bottle. Hoppy aroma, quite obviously. Flavour has also hops, little citrus, too. Some sweetness, quite unrthodox finish. Good, but not my favourite. leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Feb 23, 2009 Bottle. Amber red and gold with a small head. Aromas are herbal and floral with pine. Very "green" and fresh with some woody notes. Flavours are sweet pine with lots of peppery and spicy character. Some citrus with a bitter finish. Very hoppy and very good. Bragesnak (2223), Aarhus, Denmark Feb 22, 2009 From Voldby, DK.
Bottled, 210209.
Orange with white head. Aroma of oranges and malt. Flavor is citric - grapefruit and lemon with a caramel tone RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Feb 21, 2009 Updated: May 21, 2009Hazy amber/orange with an unremarkable head and retention but good lacing. Aroma is all about the hops - kind of citrusy up front, but more piney after a bit. Same sensation on the palate, though there is a nice balance with the malt sweetness, and the alcohol becomes evident. Medium to full body, not much carbonation, and the hops dominate the aftertaste. Typical over-the-top double, but if you like this style, and I do, this is a good example. nbutler11 (729), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 21, 2009 On tap at Papago. Pours copper with a creamy off-white head. Smells and citrus and faint pine. Brimming with the flavors of bitter hops, waxy grapefruit, caramel, and cream. Well-balanced and absurdly drinkable at nearly 11%.
