Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Oct 24, 2009 Pours a clear amber-orange with a large, dense, fluffy beige head that reduces to a thin cap and patchy lace. The second pour is a deep, cloudy, tan-orange. The nose is a nice, big citrus at first, then transitions to a blend of dusty blood orange, alcohol, Smarties candies, and caramel malt (in the background). Medium to full-bodied, soft and slick with a solid bitter and somewhat boozy finish that rolls into a lingering bitter and mineral aftertaste. The flavor is a big hit of citrus hops over caramel malt transitioning to a tongue-rapingly resinous and bitter finish that again includes the aforementioned mineral characteristic. This beer is truly a palate crusher. It lacks any semblance of balance or refinement. If you want a hop bomb, as the label depicts, this beer delivers in spades. Hops and alcohol, it’s got, but after reading and hearing good things about this beer, I don’t know that I could have been more disappointed with it. acblue (50), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 20, 2009 Deep copper, very small white head. Tons of hops, piney in aroma but with some lighter citrus and grapefruit in the flavor. Surprisingly well balanced. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Oct 19, 2009 Sample while judging Alpha King 2009 Contest at Falling Rock. My choice for #1, no offense to Mountain Sun. Copper colored. Huge piney hop aroma. Extremely balanced IIPA. Sticky hops, delicious, malty balance. Great Great beer Sledutah (20), Utah, USA Oct 18, 2009 Wow..... Nice copper color with a small amount of cloudiness, with a light colored head. The aroma hits you hard with the first sip hitting harder! By the time it hits the back of the mouth it smooths out and finished nicely. I love this beer. I know I said the Port Brewing Wipeout IPA was one of the best IPA’s I’ve had, but Hop-15 is twice as good (DIPA).
dec23 (31), Amsterdam, Netherlands Oct 17, 2009 A guy I know once said. "The Americans brew beer like they bomb countries" Hop15 sure fits this description. It even has bomber planes dropping hop on the label. This beer is for the fans of extremes. Don’t expect well-rounded complexity here, but off the wall bitterness and hop taste. Personally I like this, but in general I would say they try a little too hard for their own good. coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA Oct 17, 2009
Bottle thanks to Ditmier!. Pours an orangish copper with a touch of a frothy white head that leaves a touch of lacing on the glass. Aromas grapefruit rinds, some flowery fruit and caramel malts with a bit of a pine bite to it. . This is really nice. The malt and hops are in perfect balance... there is a wonderful caramel body that mixes just in complete harmony with the strange flowery fruits..I cant put my finger on them but damn is this good. checkmatei1 (629), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 15, 2009 Draft @ Capones: Poured a copper color with a nice head. The aroma was hops and pine. The flavor was hoppy at first, pine and flowers last. I was afraid this was going to burn my taste buds but this ended up being the best beer of the night. dionysus (95), Arizona, USA Oct 13, 2009 Bottle pours hazy orange with a large soapy white head leaving behind a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, peach, pear, pine, caramel and vanilla. Everything exciting on the nose, follows through in flavor as well. Sweet malt right up front, and ends on a fantastic bitter resin finish. One of the more solid IIPA’s out there, and even better when it’s fresh.
