Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Pours amber orange with a tall white alomot frothing head. Hops, pine, grapefruit on the nose. Great balance between hops and citrus with spice and pine adding flavor.

Pours a dark orange color with a small foamy white head that leaves patches of lacing around the glass. The nose shows fresh grapefruit hops, resinous pine, oranges all over toasted caramel. The flavor shows even more bitterness with the citrus and grapefruit hops pushing through with orange and citrus juices adding flavor. Sweet toffee and caramel add a nice malt base, but the hops are still dominant here which is a good thing. Medium bodied and a touch syrupy, but goes down really easy. This one got better as it warmed up as the bitterness in the finish was aided by some sweet caramel. This one is dangerously good at 10.5% abv, and one I will seek out often. Another great IPA from these guys.

Bomber. Pours a nice orange with a good-sized white head. Aroma is not very hoppy for a DIPA, with lots of caramel-y malt notes with a little bit of citric hops and just a touch of alcohol. The front end of the taste is mostly the same with the sticky sweetness of malt, but it rounds out into some more of those citric hop notes, with a little bit of warmth from the alcohol. Very nice! I’m a big fan.

This one came from fordest who just about killed my wants list and hop craving with that last box. Anyways, here goes. Holy smokes this one is nice. Great hops, great balance, great looking, what more can you ask for other than big tits but beers don’t come with those. Hops are beautiful soapy, pine, grapefruit kind of hops. Aroma is smooth and fruity. Would like a little more wafting character from my aroma. The finish is gently sweet with some full bodied caramel flavors right before. Very well done by these guys as to be expected.

Bottle. Thanks Hellbilly. Dark orange color with good head. Great hop aroma, apricot, orange, pine/grapefruit and lychee. Taste was similar but more caramel malt; too sugary. Alcohol makes its appearance at the bitter finish. Medium bodied, with some oil/resin on the palate.

Bottle @ WSF 2008. Clear golden with tiny head. Sweet aroma with hoppy and caramel notes. Sweet flavor with caramel, loads of hops and grapefruit notes. Finishes with solid bitterness.

Pours cloudy amber with a nice head. Smells of hops and citrus. Tastes makty, pine, and hoppy (but not over the top. Hides the 10.5 ABV very well. I’m such a sucker for double IPA.

Bottle: Good DIPA. Pours thick with a full head. Not overpowering aroma of hops and citrus. Very drinkable.
