Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

So delicious! Loads of hops, a big amber color and a lasting fluffy head. Aroma is sweet, caramel and grapefruit. Flavour has a bit more bite than most double IPAs. It isn’t as smooth as a few others I’ve tried. Very sweet, almost sticky syrupy, on the palet with a harsh bitterness in the finish. A lovely brew.

Bomber pours a transparent, orange amber with a active, frothy, slightly off white head. Shocker, the aroma is all hops: pine resin, lemons, grapefruit. Very bitter flavor with citrus fruits, some tropical fruits. Missed the sweeter malt backing that rounds out other DIPAs. Strong, bitter finish, no hint of alcohol. This might be a little overrated for me. I like my DIPAs and I like Pizza Port, but would this hold up in a blind tasting next to Hop Slam or Dreadnaught? I don’t think so.

(from notes) Very clear amber color, no sediment or haze. Nice off-white head. Crisp citrus-resin smell. Aggressive hop character all over the place with loads of tangy citrus flavor. Medium malt presence get pushed entirely to the background. Issue- quality control issues from various batches. Wind up with some very different samples of this from different bottles.

Unclear medium orange color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, pine, orange. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and heavy bitter with a long duration. 22 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass has a orange amber color and a fair amount of chunky sediment floating about. head is initially one finger and falls quickly with little lacing. aroma has sharp hops, citrus, grapefruit, pine, caramel malt, and resinous floral dry hops. mouth feel is medium heavy with heavy carbonation. flavor is certainly hop heavy but has a decent dose of malts to level it off. resinous hops, caramel malt, citrus peels and a bit of floral. very drying and finishing with biting hop and malt. it is a little darker then most iipa’s and definitely heavy handed on the hops.

A Mes rate: Bottle at weekend of tarts afterparty.
An attractive dark golden brown with a good white head. Huge American hoppage with some balancing caramel and underlying sweet malt. Nothing unusual here just a straight down the line solid double IPA.

Pours with a thick, off-white head covering a murky reddish-orange body. Lacing comes in sheets, and there is always a thing layer of foam left accross the top. The aroma fills the room as soon as it is poured. Lots of pine and grapefruit in the aroma as well as a nice caramel malt balance. Taste is some what strong of alcohol, but not unpleasently so, there is citrus hop bitterness as well as a bit of spiceyness towards the end with a touch of malty sweetness. Creamy mouthfeel with plenty of little bubbles. This is a great DIPA, but I think I actually liked there 2nd Anniversary IIPA more!
