Pizza Port Hop 15

Courtesy of Naka. Pours a clear gold with a thin white head. Smells incredibly pissy, with strong grapefruit, piney, and rubbery notes. Straight hop bomb in the mouth with no balance, or sanity for that matter, to speak of. Painfully bitter throughout. Out of control, and pretty gross. Tastes like the wrong end of a horse.

Bottle courtesy of Bchung52077: Poured an orangey color ale with a small foamy head with good retention and some minimal lacing. Aroma of citrus and grapefruit notes with some very light caramel malt notes. Taste is also dominated by some grapefruit and citrus hops notes with some very light caramel malt and a dry bitter hoppy finish. Full body with some good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. While there is nothing wrong with this beer and it is very enjoyable I still could not understand why this is so highly rated as it seems to be lacking some floral notes which are (for me anyway) what makes this style interesting to begin with.

The Dan Journal #158. Tasted 3/4/08. 22oz bomber. Top pour. Clear and golden. Layer of white head. Citrus grassy petrol aromas. Grainy and bready. Big fresh bitter piney flavor. Big alcohol note. Totally bitter with a rolling hop palate. Rye bitterness. Citrus with a subtle sweet and tart flavor. Dry with a long finish. Lingering bitterness. Mild fruit notes. Fresh and really nice. From bottle courtesy of Naka. Rubbery band-aid hoppy, with ozone, orange-peel, cat urine. Strong musky funky hop juice. Hazy orange amber with thin off-white head. Medium-heavy body with meidum carbonation, alcohol warming. Starts sweet with a lot of brown sugar and hop juice. Really a nice IIPA, with bittering through and through. Great bitter finish and brown sugar ending. I’ve run out of words at this point, but this is a really good IIPA. Thanks to Naka for sharing.

22oz bomber via South Bay Drugs. Gorgeous amber/rust combo comes out of the bottle, topped by a medium sized white head. Mostly lasting, the head leaves a thick edging ring of foamy bubbles once it does vanish, along with some nice coats of sheet lacing. Tons of carbonation bubbles race to the top of the liquid from the bottom of my snifter. Great looking beer. On the nose we have copious amounts of ruby red grapefruits, oranges, tangerines, lemon zest, pine cones, fresh cut grass and caramel hops. Fore is immensely and unforgivably bitter and astringent. Wow, I wasn’t ready for that level of bite. Had to sit it down and come at it again with a different mindset. One of the biggest straight off hop bombs I have tasted. Past that we have huge amounts of grapefruit, oranges, ripe citrus fruits, lemon zest, grass, caramel and pine. This thing must have a ton of hop resin, I’m sure, and it comes through instantly in the mouthfeel. Oily, slick, coating, everything you want in a IIPA. Towards the back end of the palate and into the finish, a crushed aspirin/metallic note rears up that becomes somewhat disconcerting considering every other facet of this beer is so well done. I almost think it can’t be helped with the amount of hops in this thing. In the end, it knocks down the flavor score from a 9 to an 8, because even if it is unavoidable, it is still there, and still unpleasant to my palate. Finish is bitter and drying, super lengthy, tons of resiny hops and citrus fruits, then some malt sweetness, then just a wave of bitterness that is almost indefinite. A few months in my fridge did nothing to this beer that I can see, it’s a freaking hop monster, and I love it for it.

Hazy, amber colour with a great, dense head. Amazing aroma of high alpha hops such as peach, citrus, caramel, and other fruits. Great flavour of burned caramel and hops. Ends up very bitter and tasty.

A gift from sparky! Nice orange color, small head. Aroma is sweet, citrus, pine hops. Taste just like it smells. Pine and little sweetness hinden among the bitterness. Good medium texture. Every thing about this beer is solid. Great beer, thanks again eric!

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange, small, off white head. Aroma is hops, citrus and pine, maybe a touch of peach or tangerine. Flavor is hops, pine and grapefruit with a touch of tangerine. Hoppy bitterness and spicy on the palate is the finish.
