tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Mar 11, 2008 Bomber, split with NachlamSie. Pours a nice orange with off-white head. The aroma is freshly-cut grapefruit, pine, and a little bit of spicy malt. The piney hops are straightfoward in the flavor, with juicy, fruity hops after that. That malts are toasty and makes the beer pleasantly dry. I like my DIPAs a bit out of balance as this one is, so I am pleased. Hank1980 (734), Athens, Georgia, USA Mar 11, 2008 Deep amber hazy pour with a small white head. Some light lacing. Aroma of ,what else but, hops. Plenty of citrus and piney hops. Taste is very heavily hopped, with some mild malt backing. Not sure what hops they used here, but there seems to be a good mix. I detect some Simcoe, but there’s plenty others as well. Bitterness in the finish is unforgiving, but nice. Mouth is medium and dry. Another big west coast IPA, very nice. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 11, 2008 3-6-08 bottle.
Nice red amber with ideal head and thick lacing. Nice sweet hop smell (wet poignant hops, not dry at all). A hint soapy but nice and very enjoyable. Smooth and almost creamy mouthfeel. I love the high drinkability of this. Tastes refreshing and earthy and hoppy. A good beer all around! altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Mar 10, 2008 Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Light orange colour, decent head. Hoppy nose. This has one hoppy taste - totally overwhelming, in taste, nose and texture. Also some citrus, and slight spices. Good but too extreme, even for a hop lover like me. deftim13 (103), California, USA Mar 9, 2008 Bottle purchased at the brewery.
Pours a golden orange and very hazy. Smell is of course dominated by hops. Spicy, earthy and citrus hops are up front. A light sweetness is also there. First taste is pure bitter citrus piney hops. Nice sweet malty backbone holds it’s own against the hops. A little bit of a burn from the alcohol is there but does not distract from the taste. Nice light carbonation helps this one go down smooth. I love a non-filtered bottle conditioned DIPA. Not a session beer as it will wreck you palate and more then one will put a hurting on you. A great beer from Tomme and the gang at LA/PB.
Tmoney99 (4657), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Mar 9, 2008 Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured hazy copper color with a large frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Heavy sour citrus hoppy and dark fruit aroma. Medium body with dry slick texture and soft carbonation. Heavy smooth bittersweet citrus flavor with a heavy bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a standout beer. EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Mar 9, 2008 Updated: Nov 19, 2008Clear red-orange pour with a thin white head. Sweet fruity citrus aroma with grapefruit, balanced with piny hops. Herbal and earthy. Flavor as expected. Very fruity and piny with mild sweetness. Harsh finish. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 8, 2008 Pours an amber color with a big lasting creamy head. Bottle conditioned haziness. Smell is nicely hoppy with mostly pine to me. Strong nose and taste. Flavor is of crisp sharp, biting, spicy hops. Somewhat tingly and spicy almost like some fresh hop beers. Well carbonated but still a rich mouthfeel. Mostly flavors of Pine and resin, and I didn’t get a lot of refreshing citrusy or floral flavors at all. Perhaps a touch too bitter for what I was looking for on this particular night. Still really nice but drinkability wasn’t as good as on some DIPAs.
