RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA Feb 23, 2008 Pours a clear orange color into the tulip with an inch of white, fluffy head. A ridiculous scent of hops here. Pine needles, grass, earth tones, orange peel, grapefruit with a slight honey scent. A very overwhelming hop experience on the palate. Very complex with new hop flavors becoming apparent on each sip. A slight hint of malt and barley to finish. dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Feb 22, 2008 Updated: Oct 31, 2008Bottle. Cloudy orangey-brown with a thick white head. Wonderfully intense hops aroma, very sweet and bitter. Rich hops taste with hints of citrus and pine that holds its bitterness nicely. Wonderful Double IPA for hops lovers.

Homegrown Hop 15 on tap at Lost Abbey for the Saints and Sinners party. Very bitter aroma, of pine hops and grass. Huge, bitter, hops taste, very grassy and herbal, with pine and citrus. Still awesome. GaltScat (195), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 18, 2008 Extreme as defined by the incredible amount of aromatic hops used. Port Brewing did no focus on anything, literally transporting us into a vortex of grassy, herbal, floral, piney, perfumey, leafy nose saturating hops. More than adequate malt base gives it the necessary caramel, cookie and honey sweetness to deal with it. The blending of both monsters create a fruity and surprisingly smooth animal of litchi, tropical fruits, apricot and pepper that takes life in the form of a medium and slick body, of surprisingly engaging carbonation. Strong alcohol accentuates the oily resin feel, but the carbonation dealt with it gracefully. A masterful execution of a too good to be true undertaking. Thanks Bartzilla! t4h2c0 (80), seattle, Washington, USA Feb 18, 2008 15 hops!!!!! This beer is hop heads dream and with the high alcohol content this beer gets on top of you quick. This is defintely one of the best double IPA’s I have ever had. I want to fill a swimming pool full of it and bathe in it. Strong hop nose, flavor, and lingering finish. This beer puts 95% of extreme IPA’s to shame. If you are true hop head you will got the end of the earth to drink this monster!!!! HopBackDoc (393), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 17, 2008 One of the best DIPA’s I’ve had. Poured a hazy orange/amber color with off-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma was a bouquet of hops -- earthy, pine, grassy and citrus all living happily together. The flavor was most surprising because the hops were backed up by some impressive sweet malts. You could taste all the hop flavors lingering on the taste buds leaving a slightly sticky sweet aftertaste that was wonderful. This is one big beer that you must try! Delicious and enjoyable. Hoptastic! SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Feb 16, 2008 Updated: Mar 31, 200822oz bottle. Hazy orange with a small, sticky head. Big fruity aroma with lime, grapefruit, mango, papaya, mint, and sugary sweetness. Tons of stuff packed in there. The flavor has a lot of sugary sweet malt that almost balances the massively bitter hops. Grapefruit dominates, but there are plenty of different hop nuances in here. Finishes long and bitter with some alcohol warmth. Full mouthfeel, with creamy carbonation. A little too sticky and sweet after awhile. Lots of nice flavors, but this is one to enjoy in smaller doses for sure. (3.7) Rerate: Rich hoppiness. The complexity and intensity of the hop flavor is almost ridiculous, but never gets to bitter or unpleasantly too intense. Still too rich to take in large doses. A pure hop sipper. (up to 4.1). Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Feb 10, 2008 Pours to a bright, hazy hue of golden orange; thin but sticky suds of beige . Lively aroma of tangerine, pineapple, and mandarin orange in a burst of summery hops; caramel, almond, and toffee layered blonde brownies fill in the substantial syrup of malt beneath. Balanced. Tastes of the dry zest of lemon and lime, beside the bittersweet impartation of grapefruit, clementine, and passion fruit. These hops are brilliantly vibrant, washing the tender, leafy rainforest sensations across the mouth again and again; blonde brownies and plenty of rich caramelized sugars warm the back with a sweet, restrained pulse. Palate is medium to full with soft carbonation; rounded and impressively smooth, easily polishing the alcohol presence. Finishes with a warm, malty sweetness of honey on biscuits and a bitter chaser of dry pine. A truly stellar example of this style, giving only the freshest of fruit and foliage tastes and only the most delicate balance of malt; this is what west coast style pale ale should be like every time. Thanks Alex!
