rustychiles (1007), Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 6, 2008 Poured a 22oz bomber into a Tulip Glass. Pours a nice orange with a small white head with some nice soapy lacing. Smells like Pine Hops and Citrus, mostly grapefruit. Nice mouthfeel, a little oily. The balance between the Sweetness, Malt, Citrus and the hops is perfect, Bitter yet Sweet. Yin and Yang. Also the ABV is well hidden in this one as well. I enjoyed this one a lot. smashteroid (227), USA Feb 5, 2008 served cold from 22 oz. bottle. pours a nice amber/orange color with a quickly diminishing off-white head. good lacing. the aroma is all pine with some notes of different fruits. great body, citrus flavors and a sweet finish to counterbalance the bitter hops. for a beer with over 10% abv, there is almost no alcohol flavor, making it a great and easily drinkable imperial ipa. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Feb 3, 2008 Updated: Feb 4, 2008Thanks to Shyam for a great trade! Pours a cloudy deep orange with a small off white head and some lacing. Some sediment floating around the bottom of the glass. Very pungent floral aroma of pine, graprefruit, mango, caramel and dough. Flavor is distinctly bitter with some caramel malt to somewhat balance what must be a very large amount of hops. Very fruity and makes the mouth pucker as it travels down the throat. Long bitter finish, very creamy texture. A very good DIPA. Pastor (509), Maine, USA Feb 2, 2008 Bottle poured into my standard pint glass produced a three finger head on top of a some what cloudy orange yellowish body
The aromas of sweet hops and flowers light citrus note there as well the aromas really stand out on this one
Flavors Hops on top of Hops along with pine and grapefruit
Smooth mouthfeel but defiantly leaves oily coating on the tongue
Yes this is a hop bomb good drinkability but the bomber was quite enough for one sitting
Taverner (826), San Ramon, California, USA Jan 31, 2008 Updated: Oct 26, 2009The first aroma is pine as the head foams into a biscuit thin line that recedes quickly. Lots of pine and grapefruit in this one. A quintessential West Coast IPA, where the pine flavors dominate. The flavor is almost a honey nectar flavor. ON SECOND ANALYSIS: Drinking this one, I notice its too sweet.
THIRD ANALYSIS: Yes, this is too sweet, cloying and the malts and hops work against each other. scrizzz (1252), kirkland, Washington, USA Jan 29, 2008 Grassy meadow notes with orange and pineapple in the nose. hazy orange with brown in the edges and a creamy 2 finger head that settled to a dense 1/2 inch. beautiful. more sweet ripe orange in the sip with mango and passion fruit, and a swirl of bitter intensities in the finish. the solid malt foundation approaches sticky but is scrubbed down by the abrasiveness of the hops. This really is amazing. phiconners (122), Massachusetts, USA Jan 26, 2008 Pours with a nice head, quickly dissipates. Slightly cloudy copper. Nice hops flavor, some grapefruit citrus comes through. Intense but not overpowering. Alcohol is very well masked. Excellent. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jan 26, 2008 Light amber/orangey color with a big fluffy off white head. Decent lacing down the sides of the snifter.
Huge, sweet, tropical hops dominate the aroma.
Grapefruit, pineapple, orange, pine, and a slight grassiness all rush forth from the complex variety of hops used in this beer. A perfect amount of caramel malt backs up the hop onslaught. The hop bitterness is appreciable but not overdone. Very well balanced.
Smooth and a bit thick, good dry hoppy finish. The 10% kinda snuck up on me, but this was enjoyable til the end. Another great Port beer.
