ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 1, 2008 Updated: Jul 23, 2009I would drink this again, and that is not something I say about IIPAs. Very dark, like Dorado, but very smooth like a brown. Pine needles yes, citrus not so much - unless we’re talking overripe orange peel. Absolutely unique. Re-rate - I haven’t touched this beer in a year because it is wildly inconsistent. Some bottles are sticky, others are over-spiced, some are soapy. Will give the final word when I find a fresh keg. Enjoyit (1695), Vadum, Denmark Jan 1, 2008 Unclear amber of color with a weak white head. An aroma of malt, hops and raw malt. A flavor of raw malt, liqurice and hops. FrancoisMtl (61), Boisbriand, Quebec, Canada Dec 31, 2007 Bottle from wetherel. Pours golden color with a nice head. Intense C-hops aroma. Although this is a all about hop beer it has a nice malt back bone and you would never think this beer weights 10% alcohol/vol.! All elements are well integrated. This is a well brewed I2PA. Thanks John! toddkrem (78), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Dec 31, 2007 Lots of head. Smells like a variety of fruits. I cannot believe this beer is 10% alcohol. It Is hidden better than any beer i have tasted. Goes down like a Flintsone vitamin, full of flavor. IPA’s are my favorite and this one is the best! OldGrowth (1405), North Carolina, USA Dec 30, 2007 bottle from trade with Carny 77. Great aroma, sweet and bitter. Grapefruit, orange, pine, honey, grassy, Hazed brownish orange color, good head with ok lacing. Bitter flavor, Big grapefruit punch, some sweet maltiness. Medium body, lite creamy mouthfeel, Bitter finish. This one is right up my alley, the aroma covered alot of ground. Thought aroma had much more going on than the flavor. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Dec 29, 2007 22oz bomber. Pours a deep dark honey color. Little to no head on this brew. Smells sweet with a hop spiciness in the background. Tastes hoppy, of course. Very hoppy, lots of hop bitterness. Grassy. Palate is thickish, with that great hoppy bitter pucker.
The bitterness gets to you after a while.
On Cask, 11/17/07 @ Churchhill’s. Pours a murky reddish brown color. Some floaters near the bottom. Foamy head with good retention. Caramelly hop smell. Caramelly and earthy hop flavor with a touch of sweet over ripe citrus. Alcohol on the finish. Thickish but smooth, with a bit of alcohol bite on the finish, very little carbonation. Good beer. Very different than what comes out of the bottle. Apparently Tomme sat on this cask for a bit. Probably would have been better fresh. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA Dec 29, 2007 Pours a cloudy burned amber with a finger of white head that dies down slowly and laces beautifully. Smells of gigantic hops, citrus, rind that all blasts your smelling senses away. DIPA....yesssir! Throws flavors at you from everywhere. Citrus, malt, sweets and HUGE pine HOPS! Feels medium in the mouth and finishes deliciously dry and bitter from the hops. 10% abv?? You have to be kidding. This brew drinks like a single IPA at most and is a must try for any hoploving BA, multiple times!
beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Dec 28, 2007 Pours golden, very clear, with a tall white head. Big floral nose, fruity citrus hops are alive and kicken. Bitterness scrapes the palate, hops dig in on the palate, providing long lasting flavor until you find the time to brush your teeth.
