Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Pours a clear tangerine with lots o’ floaties. not much head to speak of. Smell- sweet pineapple and mango goodness. a sweet sweet perfume... Taste- sweet hops. all sorts of fragrant tropical fruit. Reminds me a lot of bell’s hop slam. Hop sweetness then turns to an acidic bitter grassy finish. Malt bill lends a solid backbone and is thick and creamy with a touch of vanilla. Carbonation is lively. Alcohol is hidden allowing it to be one helluva drinkable hop monster. Just a great DIPA, and the crazy part is that its not all that fresh and is still a perfume bottle of hops!

Bottle purchased at Capone’s and shared with Ty5592 at the bar- AND at the end of of the night. My notes are not very good, and that’s too bad because it I really enjoyed this beer. Pours a golden amber with nice white head. Fresh hoppy aroma of citrus and pine. Medium bodied bordering on a sticky texture. I get a rich toffee like malt backbone countered by piney hops, and perhaps a very faint hint of smoke esters. Nice amount of balancing sweetness. Long enjoyable, lip smacking bitter finish.

Decent sized fothy white head with good carbonation. Wonderful hoppy aroma with loads of cirus and tangerine aroma. Lots of hops and a bit of sweet malts. Very juicy and succulent. Color is a slightly hazy dark golden orange. Good amount of bitterness in the flavor but is rather well balanced. Some more caramel malts and citrus fruit. Some evergreen flavors in there also. Unfortunately I am rating this from memory so I can’t really do it justice. A damn fine IIPA and one worthy of being with the best of the best.

Pours a gorgeous orange haze with a small creamy head. Big floral smell. Sweet citrus taste with a nasally hops sensation. Finish fades away with a smooth bitterness. Almost buttery texture/taste. No harsh aftertaste. Wonderful.

Ok finally got around to trying this one after picking it up at the Angel’s Share release. Needed to open it soon so I could have it fresh. Pours out a nice orange but light carbonation keeps the head down to a minimum. Oh man...as I pour the thing the hops smack me in the face, I don’t even have to get my nose close to the glass at all. However, upon smelling further I picked up pine, grapefruit, and even more sticky hops. I know you have badass hops in your beer when the air smells "heavy" or "sticky" (maybe I’m crazy but that’s what I smell). Upon first sip I get an overwhelming bitterness yet somehow Pizza Port still manages to balance this hell of a beer out with a light sweetness to finish. This is one fine example of what a double IPA should be all about.

Bottle that Garrett brought me from Cal. Thanks a shit load man! This is one Ive wanted to try for a real long time and thankfully they were selling it at the Angels Share release party. Pours out an orange color without much of a head on it. This thing smells like pine, hops, grass, some alcohol, but mostly just fresh hops. The taste is so bitter its almost like eating a fresh hop cone. A seriously good beer, but certainly not one you would want to session. Not something to age, drink it as fresh as possible. The best double IPA I have drank in quite some time. Thanks Garrett.

Duane shared a bottle of this. Thanks! Dark orange pour with an off-white head. Strong grapefruit and pine hop aroma. Some sweet caramel malt, but flavor is dominated by more citrusy hops. Resinous, somewhat sticky finish. Tasty brew!

Cloudy amber color, creamy head. Excellent aroma of sweaty hops. Good balance, powerful hop, sweetness and resins. Great.

Cloudy orange-amber color. Very nice aroma, extreme, hoppy, resiny. Good body structure, strong flavor.
