Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Tap at Uber! Nice copper/orange with a nice thin head sitting on top. Very aromatic citrus/pine hop aroma. Mainly has a pine aroma, but some citrus mixed in. Very aromatic hop aroma. Very strong hop flavor. Nice lingering bittering citrus/pine hops in the flavor. Again, this is mainly the pine hop. Nicely hopped beer. Slight alcohol flavor, but this doesn’t get in the way of the awesome hop flavor. Overall, a lovely hopped beer.

On tap at Hopleaf. Poured a golden amber with a white head. The head left nice thick lacing. Aroma was dominated by pine notes almost like you were in a pine forest. Flavor built in hop flavor throughout with both pine and citrus notes present. A nice sweet undertone was present as well.

Hazy orange colored brew. Citrus, fruity floral hoppy aroma. Flavor is citrus, pine, lot’s of hops, not overwhelming. Nice aftertaste of floral hops. Very enjoyable.

On tap at the brewery 07-10-09. Pours bright orange amber, with very little head. Solid floral hops aroma with lemon, orange and a touch of honey . Interesting balance with nice malty sweetness, then a lingering bitter finish.

What a nice DIPA. Floral hops, not too grapefruity. Just the way I like it. 10% alcohol.

Bottle. Poured bright amber body with a white head initially large but subsided quickly. Redolent of grapefruit, gummy bear sweetness, licorice, pine resin, strong caramel, slightly floral, and strongly alcoholic. Flavor is grapefruit, orange, caramel, raisin, pine, slightly earthy, and a very strong alcoholic finish. Not an overly heavy beer but almost astringent alcohol content makes it very unbalanced, otherwise its good. Not sure how this beat out Pliny or Boundary Bay for alpha king though.

The aroma about solidified that I was going to like this from the start, with citrusy hops that lead into the full fresh cone-like aroma. The flavor is fresh and hoppy with enough malt to keep it nice. The flavor hints slightly at alcohol and I’d like a little less body to bump it up in score.
