Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Bottle courtesy of Irishboy. Thanks! Pours beautiful and cheddary orange; nice and thick, with plenty of head. My nose detects abundant amounts of apricot, pine, and orange. Wow! Flavor is an atomic bomb of sour goodness: hops, grapefruit, orange, apricot, pine; it’s all here in spades. Coats the tongue nicely and leaves a lingering tartness. Utterly incredible IIPA. Fantastic. Send more, please!!!

From a bottle at SB&WF. Hazy orange, medium off-white head. Fresh hop aroma with pine needles, apricots, and citrus. Medium bodied and smooth. Wonderful long bitter finish.

I had this at the Solana Beach back in June 2006. There is no whay this is a Double IPA. This goes down more like a hopped up Quaddruple. Thos beer is very very strong. One pint will keep you warm! Sure there is enough hops to make a years worth of any other IPA. bu t it is just too strong to not be a Quad! This is just a really sweet beer that thankfully is balanced out with a sick amount of hops.

Bomber. Wantlist bonus from drewbeerme. Thanks! Wow... 15 hops!?!?! Pours a slightly murky brown with a medium sized white head. Aroma is very complex... I don’t really know how to describe it completely... just a really complex hop aroma. Citrusy, woody, fruity, floral. They’re all there. Taste is more of the same. It’s spicy and it burns. In a good way. Body is a little bit thin. Very well done! This drinks even easier than Hopslam. Quite dangerous.

Poured a golden-amber color, nice generous initial head, good retention, good lacing. The aroma was rich grapefruits and pine. The flavor was smooth pale type malts, melons, apricots, finishing with a vicious hoppy bitterness, pine and citrus at the fore, and man, some darned bittering hops shining in the finish and then some. One of the most bitter dIPA’s I’ve had, certainly overpowering the alcohol (was SHOCKED it was 10%), and the bitter hops resounded for a while after each sip and after the last sip. Certainly not a malty sticky run away of a dIPA, dangerously drinkable!

The big brew pours with a hazy deep orange amber body topped by a thin, creamy, lasting head with good lacing. The aroma is sweet and tropical with a nice hoppy note and a good maltiness. The flavor is sweet and tropical with a kick of bitter, piney hops and a nice malt balance. Full bodied and smooth with a warmth down deep.

This is quite possibly the most authentic grapefruit hop aroma ever. Very hoppy aroma. The hops dominate the flavor, but the malt keeps it from going off-kilter.

Bottle courtesy of Bchung52077: Poured an orangey color ale with a small foamy head with good retention and some minimal lacing. Aroma of citrus and grapefruit notes with some very light caramel malt notes. Taste is also dominated by some grapefruit and citrus hops notes with some very light caramel malt and a dry bitter hoppy finish. Full body with some good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. While there is nothing wrong with this beer and it is very enjoyable I still could not understand why this is so highly rated as it seems to be lacking some floral notes which are (for me anyway) what makes this style interesting to begin with.
