Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

On tap at Stone. Golden yellow with a big foamy white head. Citrus and pine aroma. Good bitter bite with flavors of pine and fruit and finishing with a bitter-sweet taste.

Aroma – Huge rich IPA hop aroma with subtle spices.
Appearance – Amber in color, Clear with a thin head.
Flavor – A awesome tasting IPA with the perfect amount of Hops. This is as good as it gets for IPA’s .
Palate – Nice Mouthfeel, good texture with a dry finish.
Overall – One of the best IPA’s I have ever had. The flavor was dry with great hops the taste was not so over the top it was really drinkable and I loved it.

Pours a lightly hazy, dark orange-amber color. A large, rocky, spongy off-white head sticks around for ages, leaving craggy mountaintops of thick foam atop the brew. Thick clumps of lacing stick to the glass in random locales. The aroma screeches straight towards the nasal passages before the first drop even touches the glass. Sharp grapefruit hops, sweet orange juice, and resinous pine dominate the toasted caramel malt base. The flavor takes a turn for the more bitter, as grapefruit slices right through the other components like a knife through hot butter. Sweet orange juice rushes to the rescue, followed by buttery toffee, caramel, and some dry, toasted grains. The body is medium-full and slightly syrupy. Finishes rather bitter, though not unpleasantly so. Astringency is present when cold, but subsides almost completely as it warms. Solid IIPA, but I still prefer Port’s Wipeout offering.

sampled on tap at the 5th Boulder Strong Ale Fest. first sample of the night so here we go...pours clear golden with white head. lots of PNW hops in the nose. hop flavor comes off a bit messy and really bitter. even for a iipa. some caramel, cookie notes as well. there’s some alcohol heat too. this is a true hop bomb, fun to drink, but just too much and unbalanced..3.7.

Sep 30, 2007, 22oz bottle. pours beautiful dense ruby w/ white head. nose is very fruity and piney hop notes, grapefruit, mango. flavor is almost bruisingly bitter with touch of alcohol and caramel malty finish. the hop nose could a bit fresher, i think they sat on these bombers for a month or two...? anyways, i like that this iipa is actually really bitter and big with a big hop flavor that’s crisp and still fruity. too many so-called iipa are just focused on a big hop nose and flavor but lacks balance. this is very big and awesome.3.9.

Re-rate 5/22/2004, on draft at O'Brien's SD: big citrus hoppy nose & flavor, great mouthfeel. although this is a hop monster, there's definitely a good amount of hop backbone. It pours a cloudy golden brown with a nice head.

On tap at Stone; one of the better beers I had there. Flavor was nice and hoppy, with some complexity and had nice flavor of citrus and pine, with some nice caramel balance. The hops are definitely the star of the show. Found it at least as good as Pliny the Elder. (Re-rated from a bottle. Smell was fantastic, better than I remembered and maybe the best aroma of any beer I have had; grapefruit and citrus with a candy/brown sugar vibe to it. Hops were as assertive as I remember. Just a fantastic beer. Bumped it up a bit).
